Little hope from a powerful government

With more than half of the country's population forced to suffer from some form of social exclusion, it is only fitting that a powerful republican government take decisive action.

The recent results of the House of Representatives elections are a victory for all Nepalis. This election, with unprecedented enthusiastic participation of the Gen-G generation, has not only established the dominance of the younger generation in parliament, but has also instilled new faith and hope in the citizens.

Elections are the beautiful side of democracy. And, the election results this time have proven how powerful the people are in a democracy. In this sense, this election is a great celebration, which has united most of the Nepali community under a single rope of hope and taken the country forward on a new path.

As the traditional forces were defeated, the National Independent Party has emerged as the main force with the largest public vote since the establishment of the republic. After the establishment of democracy, the unstable government had become the biggest obstacle for Nepal. But this time, the citizens have given their consent for the RSNP to become the sole permanent government for the next five years.

The citizens have not only elected representatives by giving their votes of trust, but have also sent them with an equally heavy burden of responsibility. Therefore, the RSNP has no right to disappoint the citizens now. The main issue of the Gen-G rebellion was the end of corruption and good governance. The new government should start reforming from there.

The new government, which has won the people's votes by shouting the slogan of change, does not need to do much, it is enough to just provide innovations in the delivery of government services so that the citizens can immediately feel it. There is a need for reform in the country's constitution, laws and state policies. That reform should not be based on the pressure and influence of vested interests, but should be for the convenience of the citizens and the national interest of the country.

Misgovernance, corruption and irregularities are rampant in the country. Along with that, poverty, unemployment, bad culture and social exclusion have emerged as major challenges. More than half of the country's population is forced to suffer from some kind of social exclusion. At such a time, it is appropriate for a powerful government of a republic to take steps with restraint.

The word that has been talked about a lot in elections is - delivery. In fact, after the democratic system of governance, the citizens have not been able to get the delivery they want. Citizens need a government from birth to grave (womb to grave). This is the basic concept of public administration and the issue of good governance starts from here. But today, an ordinary citizen does not seem to be able to get the expected support from the government. Instead, step by step, he is cheated by the government, feels cheated and abuses it.

An ordinary citizen stands in line to get a birth certificate, a line to get citizenship, a line to get a passport, a line to get a marriage registration, a line to pay taxes, a line at the land revenue office, a line at the courthouse, a line at the airport, a line for any government service. Such a series continues even when the body is cremated after death. However, the class with access to all these places has ease. The new government should first be able to eliminate this inequality.

Every citizen is tired of having to stand in line from the ward office to Singha Durbar to get services. How long will it be necessary to struggle painfully even for basic services? Isn't it the responsibility of the state to take care of every citizen born in its soil? If so, then the state should treat every citizen equally.

This is why the public opinion that was cast with hope on the young generation on 21 Falgun is for this. Improvement in the delivery of public services in the state is the most important need of the day. Another thing, today's digital generation is smart. This generation, which grew up seeing the world in its hands, becomes a victim of chaos and misrule as soon as it leaves home.

Whether it is commuting in public transport or in universities and colleges, the youth expect to have a life like the one they see around the world in their own society. However, in practice, that is not fulfilled. The administrative negligence, chaos and the antics of the university's student organization make the students frustrated.

The university neither conducts exams on time nor publishes the results on time. Till date, the university has not been able to issue its academic calendar. A student is disappointed with the university and the entire educational system for not even receiving the identity card he should have received from the college on time. The university is only charging fees, but other basic issues (such as identity cards, libraries, certificate distribution) are not the priority of the university administration. The current frustration and desire for change among the youth has arisen from this. Therefore, the government needs to start the reform from schools and universities. The government needs to understand that citizens are not expecting big reforms right away, but are looking for small reforms.

The country must be taken forward on the path of progress. Large infrastructure for development is needed. Along with infrastructure, improvement in the living standards of citizens is everyone's desire. However, for that too, it starts with food and shelter. People's daily lives have become expensive. Only when daily lives are improved can we dream big dreams of prosperity. A powerful government needs to start with small things at a rapid pace.
