Several ministers who participated in the government formed from the foundation of the movement joined the cabinet singing the name of independence, but on the eve of the election, they joined political parties contrary to the sentiments of the gen-ji.

Following the Gen-G protests of 23 and 24 Bhadra, the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign. At the initiative of Gen-G representatives and the then army, an interim government was formed under the leadership of Sushila Karki and the House of Representatives was dissolved.
Therefore, the term of the House of Representatives formed in the 2079 elections is not over yet, and the election is being held again on 21 Falgun. The basic work of the election has been completed. The work from the registration of candidacy to the publication of the manifesto has been completed. Parties and candidates are busy seeking votes.
Some ministers who participated in the government formed on the basis of the movement joined the cabinet by singing the name of independence, but on the eve of the election, they joined political parties contrary to the sentiments of Gen-G. The fascination with power and politics has raised questions of morality among the ministers participating in the election. This has created further anger among the Gen-G youth. Our political parties and leaderships are not concerned about the extent to which the youth have received martyrdom. Instead, the politics of accusations and counter-accusations has begun. Politics has flourished in the name of Gen-G, which is contrary to the purpose and essence of the Gen-G movement.
Elections are a sophisticated process in which the people freely use their precious franchise to the fullest extent and elect their representatives or rulers. In democratic countries, only free and fair elections give the nation a new direction with a fresh mandate. Adult suffrage and elections are indispensable for the stability of democracy and civil liberties. But will this election represent the Gen-Gs? What was the significance of the movement? Will the political parties advance the agenda of good governance, corruption control, and constitutional amendment as the youth have said? All these questions will have to be faced by the interim government and the parties participating in the elections.
The Constitution has organized political rights as constitutional and fundamental rights. In the past, political parties participating in the government have emphasized only on the implementation of political rights. Even after the Gen-G uprising, there is no sign of reform in the so-called major parties in Nepal, or rather, they do not care about the movement. The decline in internal democracy in the party and the lack of practice of internal democracy is even more sad. If the nation is to be guided on the right path, first of all, the strengthening of political parties and the blueprint for nation-building must be spot on. Expecting change from the old political parties and their leadership is like expecting mangoes from a chilli plant.
Just as political parties prioritized constitutional rights and emphasized their implementation. Similarly, if emphasis had been placed on the constitutional and legal rights of citizens and the implementation of the constitution, today's results would not have occurred. Which is the main challenge of today. The current modern generation expects a technology-friendly social environment, youth-friendly employment guarantee in the country, transparency of the government and leadership towards the people, good governance, a corruption-free society, as well as a guardian role from the state.
Although the Gen-G rebellion was a separate movement led by the youth for us, it is certainly not new. Nepali society has experienced many movements for social change in various periods in the past. Be it the global Rana regime and others, there were movements to restore democracy, to end the independent Panchayat system and establish a multi-party system, to end the royal autocracy and establish a federal democratic republic. No matter how many movements there were in Nepal for the sake of social transformation and change, there are examples among us of movements that ultimately became purposeless because they could not find the right path due to the personal interests of the leadership. Today, as we stand on the brink of change again, the political debate of accusations and counter-accusations, contrary to the essence of the movement and devoid of an election-focused agenda, has created doubts, reflecting the past self-centered political practices.
The elections born from the Gen-G movement have not been able to provide fair representation to the families of the injured and martyrs. Tickets have been distributed according to the old format. The issues of the movement are not given priority by political parties. This has raised ethical questions about the legitimacy of the election. But there is no alternative to elections to strengthen democracy.
The main demands of the movement are constitutional amendment, end to corruption, good governance, and rule of law. The order given by the Supreme Court to provide voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad has not been implemented even after years. There is no emphasis on national and international strategies to save the country from geopolitical turmoil. The parties' views on various multifaceted issues such as economic development, self-reliant production, development of industry and tourism are not clear. As a result, elections are being used as a means for political parties to gain power.
When there should be a debate on issues of public concern by demonstrating national unity and raising the standard of living of citizens, when there should be a debate and dialogue on issues such as the development of the national economy and strengthening international relations, accusations and counter-accusations are being made the election agenda. The Gen-G rebellion is being made the ladder of power by making it an election issue. We need to understand this issue. If we do not think about this in time, we will have no choice but to regret it.
The leadership should consider the problems of the people as its own issue after a comparative study of the multifaceted aspects of society and represent it. Leadership ability is not just the art of joining politics after being unemployed and giving a few speeches. Leadership should put national interests and self-interest above personal interests. The need of the day is for political parties and their leadership to assimilate the demands of the movement and address the grievances of the citizens through elections.
