Growing up against a backdrop of global challenges and rapid technological change, Gen Z has transformed their experiences into a dynamic and influential movement advocating for a better future. The 23rd and 24th Bhadra movements, which challenged the established political order, are seeking new leadership and a different political culture.

The country currently has a civilian government led by Sushila Karki, who was elected Prime Minister by the youth through social media. The main 'mandate' of this interim government, formed after the Gen-G movement, is to hold elections to the House of Representatives. The election has been announced on 21 Falgun on the recommendation of the government. The government and the Election Commission are also holding discussions with the parties along with preparations for the election.

Electoral competition between political parties is a part of a liberal and vibrant democracy. The party leading the movement is most likely to win the election after the movement. If we look at the electoral history of Nepal, it seems that the main force leading the movement has won every election after the movement. The Nepali Congress, which led the revolution against the Rana regime in 2007 BS, won 74 out of 109 seats in Nepal's first parliamentary election held in 2015.

The Nepali Congress once again played an important role in the people's movement of 2046 BS. The movement ended the 30-year-long Panchayat system and restored multi-party democracy in the country. Then, in the 2048 BS election for the House of Representatives, it won 110 out of a total of 205 seats, securing a single majority in the House of Representatives.

The Maoists, which fought a 10-year people's war, emerged as the largest party in the first Constituent Assembly election since the 2062/63 people's movement. They won 220 out of 575 elected seats in the 601-member Constituent Assembly. In the direct election for 240 seats, they alone won 120 seats.

In this way, the Nepali people have always entrusted the leadership responsibility to the party that led the movement. But the movement of Bhadra 23 and 24 is a spontaneous movement without any structured group or organized party due to growing disillusionment among the youth. The people's sentiment is with the youth, although the lack of a strong organization may make it challenging to translate that support into votes.

The main demands of the Gen-G rebellion are an end to systemic corruption and nepotism, ensuring transparent and accountable governance, and institutionalizing the restructuring of old political systems. Some political parties and individuals are expressing doubts about the election environment, but the election itself can provide a solution to the current complex situation.

The election to the House of Representatives is less than four months away. Various parties of the Gen-G generation are in the process of registering with the Election Commission. Therefore, the young generation has no choice but to participate in the election without delay. Since this is the first election for the young generation, they should be prepared to face difficult situations and overcome adversity. There are some aspects that the Gen-G generation should pay attention to in preparing for the election.

Give a clear message

The Gen-G generation should also take the responsibility of informing civil society why the upcoming election to the House of Representatives is important. Issues such as rampant corruption and lack of accountability in the country, misgovernance, delays in service delivery, ineffective institutions and centralization, weak leadership, instability, brokering, unemployment, nepotism and favoritism should be emphasized. The demands of the movement The need for constitutional amendment to institutionalize good governance, transparency, accountability, and meritocracy should be clearly placed among the people.

Direct contact with voters

Direct contact with voters should be prioritized. Door-to-door campaigning and personal conversations are the most effective ways to connect with voters. It builds trust. It is also easy to understand the feelings of voters. You should increase your presence and use media and social media to convey your message to the public.

Running an effective campaign

For elections, it is necessary to build a strong team with roles such as campaign manager, volunteer coordinator, and communications director. An effective campaign should be developed and run for each constituency.

Managing financial resources

We have repeatedly read and heard that elections in Nepal are expensive. The biggest challenge for the young generation will be managing financial resources for elections. Election campaigns in Nepal are mainly conducted through private donations, management by the candidates themselves, internal party funds, and the use of illegal 'black money'. Since the party representing the young generation is new, there are no other resources except private donations and the candidates themselves. Therefore, it is important to discuss from now on how and from where resources can be managed.

Candidate Selection

Another complex process for Gen-G will be the selection of candidates. One of the main reasons for the low voter turnout in recent elections is the lack of good candidates. The 61 percent voter turnout in the 2079 general election reflects the growing apathy among voters. Old parties have repeatedly given tickets to old, corrupt and incompetent leaders.

That is probably why many voters are looking for the right to reject, known as ‘None of the Above’ or ‘NOTA’, on the ballot paper. We must be able to give those voters an option. Therefore, to select worthy candidates, we must start the candidate selection process as soon as possible. It is necessary to be united, integrated and united to ensure the victory of the selected candidates without any personal greed.

Elections for the leadership of the young generation and for leadership are indispensable for ending the corruption, chaos, misrule, irresponsibility, instability and political exit that is rampant in the country. The elections to the House of Representatives are approaching, so we have no time to waste. It is time for the younger generation to move from expressing grievances to embracing accountability and implementing solutions. Let's not waste time, let's get ready for the upcoming elections.
