According to the Economic Survey 2082/83, there has been a modest improvement in the gross value added of Nepal's information and communication sector. The gross value added of this sector is estimated to reach 5.53 percent in the current fiscal year, while it was 4.88 percent in the previous fiscal year.
The contribution of the information and communication sector to the gross domestic product is also estimated to increase by a slight percentage in the current fiscal year. It is estimated to be 1.93 percent this year, while such contribution was 1.92 percent in the previous fiscal year.
The survey mentions that the information technology sector has gained momentum due to the increase in computer programming and information service activities, the expansion of the business of internet service providers, and the positive changes in wireless communication services.
Looking at the data of the past 10 years, it is seen that the average annual growth rate of this sector has been 5.22 percent and the average contribution to the gross domestic product has been 2.13 percent. Due to the development of digital infrastructure and increased access to technology by citizens, this sector has gradually strengthened its share in the economy.
Compared to the average contribution of the last decade, the current fiscal year's contribution is low.
