Although my party supports the spirit of the Gen-G movement, it is not involved in violent activities: Dahal

The propaganda that illegal cash was found in the house of my daughter Ganga Dahal is baseless. Neither such cash has been found, nor have we earned any income from any illegal source. - Dahal

Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that although his party supports the spirit of the Gen-G movement, it is not involved in violent activities.

In his statement to the inquiry commission on the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, Dahal also said that if people associated with the party were involved in violent activities, then action should be taken as per the law.  He has said that the vandalism and arson of government and private buildings on Bhadra 24 was not just an anger against the government.  He said, 'I am of the opinion that the vandalism, arson and looting of Singha Durbar, Sheetal Niwas, Parliament House, Supreme Court, and various government and private buildings on Bhadra 24 were not just an anger against the government but were a planned attempt to attack the system.

Dahal said that he condemned the repression on Bhadra 23 and made a public appeal to declare the martyred protesters as martyrs and to bring the situation under control, and called for an all-party meeting the next day.  'I attended the all-party meeting at Singha Durbar on the morning of Bhadra 24 and after the situation became complicated, I stayed under the protection of the security forces in the afternoon. In my understanding, the background of the movement is the growing public dissatisfaction and anger towards the government's working style. The ban on social media seems to have been the immediate cause of it,' Dahal's statement states. Dahal has also stated in his statement that the youth's anger on Bhadra 23 was seen as a demonstration and that the form of the movement changed on the 24th and that wrong elements used it.

Dahal has stated that on Bhadra 24th, the rented residence where he was staying in Kathmandu and the house in Chitwan were vandalized, arson and looted. He also said that the propaganda that illegal cash was found in his daughter's house is also wrong. He said in his statement, 'I do not have my own house in Kathmandu. The propaganda that illegal cash was found in the house of my daughter Ganga Dahal is baseless. Neither has any such cash been found, nor have we earned any income from any illegal source.'
