Thirteen election police officers deployed for the security of the House of Representatives member election have lost their lives. Thirteen election police officers from 10 districts have lost their lives in the line of duty. According to Nepal Police spokesperson Abinarayan Kafle, they died while deployed on duty after being appointed as election police officers. If an election police officer dies while performing his duties, his family will be provided with benefits similar to those provided to the next of kin in the event of the death of a police officer.
Baburam Yadav, 25, of Siddharth Nagar Municipality-9 in Rupandehi and Prakash Chand, 32, of Dasharath Chand Municipality-4 in Baitadi died on 20 Magh. The remaining 11 people have died since February 6. Mahadev Od of Sohi ward, Rajendra Prasad Bhatta of Melauli Municipality-6 of Baitadi, Rajesh Kumar Paswan, 37, of Dhanauji Rural Municipality-4 of Dhanusha, Adarshkotwal Rural Municipality-4 of Bara, Sheikh Jasmaid, 25, of Inarwa, and Rajababu Ram, 23, of Matihani-7 of Mahottari also lost their lives while deployed as election police.
Gujra-2 of Rautahat, 19-year-old Jeshmi Chaudhary of Chochatol, Sarawal Rural Municipality-2 of Nawalparasi, 20-year-old Suraj Chamar of Manari, 24-year-old Pawan Sah of Fatuwa Bijaipur Municipality-7 of Rautahat, 35-year-old Mansingh Rana of Laljhadi Rural Municipality-3 of Kanchanpur, 40-year-old Beg Bahadur Tamang of Bidur Municipality-9 of Nuwakot and 47-year-old Nakul Bhandari of Bahribise Municipality-4 of Sindhupalchowk, Okhreni have lost their lives.
Police spokesperson Kafle said that the death of the election policeman while performing the important responsibility of election security is an irreparable loss for the country.
149,090 Nepali citizens aged 18 to 54 were recruited into the election police with a 40-day working period. The election police were deployed in the field as assistants to the police and the armed forces before and during the counting period.
Of which, the Nepal Police recruited 133,990 and the armed forces recruited 15,110 people as election police. The election police deployed under the Nepal Police were mobilized as assistants to the police in securing the polling stations, while the armed forces were mobilized as their supporting forces in accordance with the responsibility of the outer security perimeter.
