The Election Commission has claimed that the results of the first-past-the-post (direct) election will be made public within 24 hours of the completion of voting and the start of vote counting.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has informed that preparations are being made to collect the ballot boxes as soon as possible and announce the results despite the geographical remoteness. He said that the counting of votes for the direct route and the counting of votes for the proportional route will also proceed simultaneously.

The commission claims to provide live results within 24 hours of the start of vote counting.

‘It takes time to collect ballot boxes from the hilly and mountainous terrain, but we are trying to collect them as soon as possible. In most places where we cannot come quickly, we collect ballot boxes using Nepali Army helicopters,’ he said.

Bhandari said that it is a normal process in any democratic country in the world to invite international observers on the eve of the election to inform them of the situation and provide hospitality.
