Acting Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission, Ram Prasad Bhandari, has clarified that rumors that ballot boxes will be exchanged during transportation by helicopter are completely baseless and misleading.

During a press conference organized at the commission on Wednesday, Bhandari said that there will be no compromise on the security of the ballot boxes. He said that the ballot boxes will be kept within a three-tier security perimeter as is customary.

He said that after the voting is completed, the ballot boxes will be sealed in the presence of representatives of political parties and candidates and the representatives' own symbols will be stamped on them. He informed that the old system of Nepal Army in the outer perimeter, Armed Police Force in the middle perimeter and Nepal Police in the inner perimeter will remain in place for the security of the ballot boxes.

'I have heard that in some places, the ballot boxes themselves are changed after being placed in a helicopter, but that is not a small thing, it will not happen under any circumstances. During the counting of votes, the counting of votes will start only after the party representatives check whether their stamps are correct or not. Therefore, there is no truth in such doubts and suspicions,' he said.

Stating that a reliable and safe helicopter of the Nepal Army is being used to bring ballot boxes from remote areas, he urged people not to believe the rumors that the army will bring separate ballot boxes.
