Prateek Pradhan, Editor-in-Chief of Bahrakhari Online, has said that there is an increase in 'deep fakes' and people should be aware of them.
‘The current problem is that citizens are guided by social media rather than the media. They started counting how many likes, comments, and shares they got. That too started to be fake,’ he said while speaking on the first session of the second day of Kantipur Conclave-2026 on the topic ‘Chautari of Dialogue: The Confusion of Algorithms’. ‘If someone writes on social media and gets 500,000 likes in 5 minutes, it is fake.’ He said that fake lines, comments, and shares should be avoided. Although agenda setting and thought leadership should be led by those who win the trust of the people, it has been misused. He pointed out that now anyone can create agendas and thoughts with the help of social media. ‘We should be afraid of AI-generated deep fakes. Journalists set the agenda for the citizens. What journalism does is to provide information,’ he said.
He said that the media, unable to identify fake content, has also gone after likes, comments, shares and views. ‘The media has been losing its power.’ The agenda and thought setting should be seen in the interests of the people and the country. The media should take the lead in that,’ said Editor-in-Chief Pradhan.
