Prateek Pradhan, Editor-in-Chief of Bahrakhari Online, has said that journalism is failing due to the crowd of visitors.
Speaking at a panel on 'Chautari of Dialogue: The Confusion of Algorithms' on the second day of Kantipur Conclave 2026, he said that journalism should be able to voice the voice of the people rather than chasing the crowd. 'Algorithms have also changed the media. Journalism has moved forward through print, radio, television, and online,' he said, 'Journalism was supposed to voice the voice of the people. Journalism is the medium of freedom of expression.'
But in recent times, Editor-in-Chief Pradhan pointed out that journalism institutions that lead thought have been failing by focusing only on content creation. 'Journalism around the world has become like content creation. There is a lot of responsibility in this profession,' he added, 'We should provide the topics that society seeks. It should be clear what kind of content to give to society and what kind of content not to give. The institution that leads thought should be journalism.'
He said that journalism has failed by following the crowd. 'Yesterday, the news was released to the public. It was moving forward after understanding its reaction. Today, it is trapped in algorithms. Will they make whatever they see news?' He asked.
If this continues, the profession and business of journalism will end, he said. 'The media is getting trapped. We need to draw a border line on what kind of content to give to citizens. What the media is should be clear about. There should be freedom of the press. What journalism does is change society,' he said. He said that journalism is becoming weaker when content is presented indiscriminately.
