Mrigendra Karki, Executive Director of the Center for Nepal and Asian Studies (CINAS) at Tribhuvan University, has said that Nepal should keep its position and national interests in mind while formulating its foreign policy.

Speaking at the third session of the second day of the ‘Kantipur Conclave-2026’, ‘Nepal in the tug of war’, Karki said that it is necessary to formulate its own foreign policy by keeping in mind the situation and national interests of Nepal. Karki commented that Nepal is investing very little and has a limited vision of taking money from other countries to advance its development. According to him, since there are political and economic conditions when investment comes from other countries, national interests and internal integrity must be ensured. It is necessary to be cautious in foreign policy. ‘If we do not formulate our foreign policy correctly, our internal regional integrity may be at risk,’ he said, ‘we must be more careful in our relations with India and China.’
