Politician Khushbu Oli has said that it is dangerous to choose leaders based on their popularity on social media.

‘You can make yourself popular by investing in social media for a short time. Choosing a leader based on this is a very dangerous thing,’ she said at the ‘People’s Panel’ session of Kantipur Conclave. ‘In this day and age, we look at trends and trends, but what is the personality like? What are the ideas? Not even asking questions, not even seeking accountability from that leader? It seems that we are suffering from a situation where we are voting through social media.’

She said that she is concerned about the accountability of MPs and parliamentarians who set their views on social media. ‘How many will be accountable in the parliament that will be formed now? How many will be responsible? How many will be transparent? How many will be mature is a matter of great concern,’ she said. ‘Social media does not make leaders. When social media brings waves, immature political practice is being seen.’
