KP Sharma Oli has been elected as the President for a third term at the 11th General Convention of the UML.
Oli won by 1,099 votes. He got 1,663 votes, while his rival Ishwor Pokharel got 564 votes. Pokharel, who is also a former general secretary, is contesting for the presidency for the first time. Earlier, Oli was elected as the president for the first time in the ninth general convention held in Kathmandu in 2071. Then, in 2078, he was elected president for the second time from the Sauraha general convention. In the eighth general convention held in Butwal in 2065, Oli was defeated by Jhalanath Khanal.
2,227 votes were cast in the election. According to the Central Election Commission of the 11th General Convention, 36 general convention delegates were absent from voting.
