Timure is still without road connectivity

Timure located in Gosaikund Rural Municipality-2 is 16 km away from Syafrubansi. Due to the flood in Bhotekoshi last Tuesday morning, the road connection with Timure is now broken. The flood washed away the entire two-section road leading to Timure. Roads are broken and damaged in places. The trade relations between the two countries have also broken when the Miteri bridge connecting Nepal-China at Rasuwagadhi was swept away by the floods in the Lhende River.

Goods have been removed from cargo vehicles buried in the customs yard due to flooding. Electric and cargo vehicles are stationed here and there in and around Timur Hill. The vehicles brought in this way have been checked by customs and some are in the process of being done. Since there is no road, these vehicles are also stopped in Timure. After the bridge collapsed and the road was closed, the customs office has also become deserted.

50 vehicles are in the process of customs clearance. There are only four cargo vehicles carrying apples. Subba Chandiraj Gelal, deputy of Rasuwa Customs Office, said that there were also open trucks carrying prepared goods and hydro goods. "35 cargo vehicles that went to China to take goods have also stopped in Timure," he said.

Only the locals of Timure, Dahal Fedi, Thuman of Gosaikund rural municipality are allowed to carry goods in the customs yard. Outsiders are not allowed to work as porters. Nasu Gelal said that there are 610 such workers in three villages. "Everybody works in turn, there is a customs workers' union," he said, "the union hires workers based on the workload." For loading and unloading, the group charges 8 to 10,000 per vehicle.

"This is the amount they take in normal conditions," he said, "In unusual cases, they take 60,000 to 80,000 and return the goods." He said that the livelihood of the locals has stopped after the checkpoints were closed and the roads were blocked.

Kami Chhiring Tamang, Ward President of Gosaikund-2 said that there was a big flood even without rain. "Floods have caused great damage to the physical structure," he said, "The government should take the initiative to open the border and repair the road." How to transport food to the village where there is no fast road? If someone gets sick, there is no road to drive an ambulance," he said.

Meera Thapa Magar, a local, said that after the road was washed away, the headquarters was closed. "Children are also studying in Kathmandu," she said.

The head of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office in Kathmandu, Shubraj Neupane, said that the road was washed away in many places when the river eroded. "We are preparing to cut the wall as much as possible in such a place and build a wall from the river where it is not possible," he said, "for that, the engineer team is in the field."

The flood has washed away a km road in different sections. "In the first phase, a one-way road will be opened, then ambulances and vehicles carrying food will go back and forth from Timure. After this, the life of the people there will be easier," he said.

He says that the road department is working to open the road by using its own machines and some on rent. "Of the 16 km road from Syafrubensi to Rasuwagadhi, 3 km from Syafrubensi and 4 km from Timure to Rasuwagadhi are open," he said.
