Two senior police officers at KIIT University to understand the situation of Nepali students

Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba has said that she is following up the incident and the developing situation in the hostel of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Odisha, India.

She has mentioned on social network X that she is continuously following the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal and the subsequent events. She mentioned that two senior officers of the Nepali Police from the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi visited the university this morning in order to understand the situation of the Nepali students and to provide a safe environment for the Nepali students there.

'I have spoken to them on the phone and instructed them to coordinate with the Indian security personnel for the necessary investigation of the incident and to coordinate with the university administration to provide the Nepali students with the necessary support and stay safely in the hostel,' Foreign Minister Rana said, 'Nepalese Embassy in Delhi is taking necessary steps in this regard. After yesterday's diplomatic efforts, the college has already appealed to the students to return to the hostel, and the university has also informed through public notice that action has been taken against the staff who misbehaved with the Nepali students.

She also mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepali Embassy in Delhi are working with necessary coordination in contact with the university administration and Indian security officials.

On Tuesday, the university issued a notice about the incident and informed that two security guards have been dismissed. Similarly, two senior officials of the hostel and one administration officer have also been dismissed pending an investigation into the incident, according to the university.

Lamsal, a third-year B-Tech student, was found dead in her hostel on Sunday evening.
