President Ramchandra Paudel is going to raise seven important issues at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) (COP-29).

President Paudel is going to Azerbaijan's capital Baku on November 25 (Sunday) to participate in COP-29, leading the Nepali team.

There  President Paudel said the protection of the Himalayas, the amount of money as promised in climate finance, the speedy operation of the damage and loss fund, easy access to climate finance for countries like Nepal, compensation for countries that emit less carbon from countries that emit more carbon, countries like Nepal are affected by countries that emit more carbon. There is preparation to raise the issue of reviving traditional ponds and wells in order to protect the environment in the face of climate change.

This time Kop will run from November 26 to November 7. President Paudel, who is going to lead the Nepalese delegation, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the conference on November 27.

President Paudel will lead an important session organized by Nepal on October 28. The visiting team led by President Paudel will include members of his secretariat, Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri and officials including members of the Ministry and Foreign Secretary Seva Lamsal.

Last year COP-28 was held in Dubai, UAE, on that occasion, the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal led the delegation from Nepal. After assuming the office of the President, Paudel has been continuously raising the issue of the climate sector internally and externally about the impact and the compensation that should be received in Nepal.

This time also in COP-29, the President will present his views on the effects of climate change on the world, including Nepal, compensation and avoidance of the effects of climate change. ;

He said, "The president has been serious in the field of climate change since the beginning". Accordingly, we have prepared . He will clearly state his views on the world stage on behalf of Nepal regarding climate change.

The President will give a message to the world that the security of the Himalayas is the security of the earth. The President will emphasize that the security of the Himalayas is not only the security of Nepal but also the world.

"The President has not given the funds as promised by various countries in climate finance". They are prepared to give them the amount according to their commitment and also ask them to give more funds because the amount they have committed is insufficient in the current context," Pokharel informed.  

Similarly, Nepal will take a firm stance on the immediate operation of the Damage and Loss Fund. Although the said fund has been established, it has not yet been fully operational. President Paudel will take the opinion to conduct it quickly .

On the other hand, because countries like Nepal do not have easy access to climate finance, the President will also request them to provide necessary climate finance without any hassle.

Similarly, countries with low carbon emissions such as Nepal will be raised with priority on the issue of compensating countries that emit more carbon. Also, countries like Nepal have been affected by countries that emit more carbon.

It is not right for a country like Nepal to be affected because of the work done by others. Nepal will also discuss that issue in Baku.

Climate change has affected the Himalayan region and has affected the environment. "The President will also give a message that traditional ponds and wells should be revived in order to avoid this and to preserve the environment," Pokharel said.

President Paudel is scheduled to return to Nepal on October 29. After that, the Nepali delegation will be led by Forest Minister Shahi. It is mentioned that the President will present the important topics that Nepal has so far put forward in the field of climate change.

Paudel will visit foreign countries for the second time after holding his tenure. Before this, he visited Switzerland and then Germany to participate in the 112th session of the International Labor Conference in May-June. In Switzerland and Germany, President Paudel strongly raised the climate agenda.

Nepal has been clearly stating its views on climate change in international forums for the last few years. Last October, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, while addressing the high-level discussion of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations, emphasized on the compensation for the effects of climate change on Nepal.
