The District Court has allowed the Kaski Police to detain RSVP Chairman Ravi Lamichhane for another 10 days for investigation of cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering. The police have also got the same deadline to investigate the former Vice President of Gorkha Media, former DIG Chabilal Joshi, former employee of Suryadarshan Sahakari Leela Pachai and the partner of Gorkha Media Chairman GB Rai, Ram Bahadur Khanal. The extended period will be counted from November 15 and will end on November 24.

The bench of Judge Chandrakant Paudel of District Court Kaski has extended the detention period of 4 people including Lamichhane by 10 days. Advocate Kamala Kafle of District Public Prosecutor's Office, co-advocate Bipinraj Tiwari and Shantidevi Sharma, advocate Yuvraj Parajuli for the victim (Jaherwala) argued on behalf of the government on Tuesday. Senior advocates Sushil Pant, Meghraj Pokharel, Narayan Ghimire, Hariprasad Subedi and advocate Narayan Kandel argued on behalf of former managing director of Gorkha Media Lamichhane. Senior advocate Jagannath Dhakal appeared on behalf of Joshi. The lawyers of Pachhai and Khanal could not argue due to lack of time.  During the

debate, the government prosecutor and Zaherwala's lawyer presented various grounds for the investigation to be continued by keeping four people including Lamichhane in custody. According to Yuvraj Parajuli, the lawyer for the co-operative victim, during the investigation, the police have found new facts, which confirm organized crime. The fact that the money went to about 40 companies from 5 cooperatives, including Suryadarshan, operated by Gitendrababu Rai (GB) Group, was made public by the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee itself. The details of the transfer of money from the cooperative from one company to another company in Rai were found in the software recovered from the house of former DIG Joshi.  During the

investigation, Ram Bahadur Khanal, the owner of Rai's company Nature Herbs related to networking business, was arrested. As the funds of the cooperative went to other companies like Gorkha Media, further investigation is pending to bring the owners of those companies under the ambit of the law, according to the public prosecutor and the lawyer of the whistleblower. New faces are being discovered through research. It was seen that the gang was organized in the planning and execution of the cooperative fraud,' said Advocate Parajuli, 'Yesterday it was only said to be a cooperative fraud, but now the investigation has not been completed because organized crime, money laundering and the Company Act are also involved.' The public prosecutor and the whistle-blower's advocate claimed that Lamichhane and others should be kept in custody due to the fact that documents related to land acquisition, bank account details, etc. related to the crime of purification are being extracted, and there is a possibility that the evidence found during the investigation will be destroyed. "Not only is the report of the Parliamentary Special Committee of Inquiry not complete, the way it is said to have given a clean chit to Ravi Lamichhane is also not true," said Advocate Parajuli, "The prosecution (police and public prosecutor) conducts its own investigation." The needle of such investigation is pointed towards organized crime.'

Lamichhane's legal practitioner reiterated his insistence that he should not be detained and investigated as various reports including the report of the Parliamentary Special Committee have been declassified. Lamichhane, who is also a former home minister, was arrested from Kathmandu on November 2 and brought to Kaski. He was initially investigated by the police for 6 days and then extended by the court for 7 days. Although the deadline expired on October 14, he was produced in court on Tuesday as it was Tihar holiday.

On Tuesday, while the debate on the extension of the deadline was going on in the court, in Ratnachowk of Pokhara, the RSVP workers demonstrated. When the protestors tried to break the cordon of the prohibited area in Wai Chowk, the police fired three teargas shells. After the situation became tense, the police arrested 16 people and kept them in the ward police office Baidam. DSP Basant Kumar Sharma said that they were released on Tuesday evening.
