The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has said that BP Highway is unlikely to be operational before Dasain. The ministry has also requested passengers to use alternative routes. Keshav Kumar Sharma, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, said that it will be difficult to bring this section into operation before Dasain due to the flooding of roads in many parts of the Nepalthok-Dhulikhel section under the BP highway.
"This section of the road was not seen to be ready for public transport before Dasain," he said. "Passengers should not rely only on this road," he said, "there is a request to use other roads instead."
The Dhulikhel-Sindhuli-Bardibas road section of the 160 km long BP highway has been damaged by floods and landslides. The 12 km road of Dhulikhel to Khurkot section has been damaged by the landslide. In that section, the flood of Roshi has completely damaged the roads with black sheets at 5 places. About half a kilometer of the road in Chowkidanda of Kavre has been washed away by the flood of Roshi. Work has already started here. More than 200 meters of roads have been completely damaged in Kaldhunga and Boksikuna of Roshi Rural Municipality. Roshi river has washed away 200 meters in Thali basin and 200 meters near Narke bridge.
A one-way road has been put into operation in Khurkot-Nepalthok, 34 km from Khurkot-Nepalthok, which has been damaged by the floods and landslides of Roshi Khola, Sunkoshi. One-way roads have been opened in dozens of places affected by landslides, while diversions have been made in places cut by Sunkoshi. After three consecutive days of efforts, the flooded road was opened from Nepalthok located in Sunkoshi-1 under the BP highway after noon on Thursday. The flood of Roshi river washed away 200 meters of road in Bandreodar between Nepalthok-Ampghari.
37 km from Khurkot to Baluwa via Nepalthok, 35 km from Dhulikhel to Chowkidanda via Bhakundebensi and 72 km has been operational. After crossing the Roshi river using four machines, a temporary diversion was constructed from the bank and the vehicle was brought into operation. With the temporary road being put into operation, the police said that 21 eastbound vehicles that were stuck in the sand and mud for a week were sent to their destination via Nepalthok-Khurkot.
The road division office of Khalte and Sunkoshi Rural Municipality are working in this area using excavators and dozers. Shant Tamang, a local who is engaged in the construction of the road, said that if the army can be mobilized to temporarily operate the road between Mangaltar and Chowkidanda, the work will be done faster if the local people can be given labor. He also said that three sections of Dhulikhel, Sindhuli Bardibas road of BP highway are in operation.
