The government has announced the construction of a dam on the Nagmati river. Finance Minister Barshman Pun has announced that a dam will be built on the tributaries of the Wagmati River in the budget submitted to the Joint House of the Federal Parliament on Tuesday.
The water resource conservation project will be carried forward to store rainwater by constructing a dam on Nagamati, a tributary of Wagmati. In order to protect water resources and use them in a sustainable and multi-faceted way, Taltalaiya, pond protection, construction and rehabilitation of reservoir projects will be conducted,' the budget presented by the finance minister states.

It is said that Nagamati Dam, which is supposed to be built to increase the flow of 400 liters of water per second, will be built in the middle of Shivpuri-Nagarjun Park. The proposed dam is said to be 95 meters high.
Feasibility study and detailed study on rainwater harvesting by constructing Nagmati Dam has been completed. Australian consulting company Antura and TMS Nepal conducted the study. It will have a storage capacity of 8 million cubic meters of water. which will cover about 50 hectares of land. During the construction of the dam, around 30/35 thousand trees will be cut down.
