Maoists have decided to nominate Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's brother Narayan Dahal as the candidate for the Speaker of the National Assembly. Although the names of parliamentarians Jhakku Subedi, Renu Chand and Urmila Aryal, who is now the vice-chairman, have been discussed, Dahal, who entered the National Assembly from the presidential nominee quota, has been decided by the Maoists to be the candidate for the chairmanship.

In the official meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence Baluwatar on Sunday evening, the Prime Minister and party president Dahal along with his brother sought the opinion of the leaders on the names of Subedi and Aryal.

Aryal and Dahal's tenure in the National Assembly is 4/4 years and Chand and Subedi's 6/6 years. A leader said that after Prime Minister Dahal put forward the names for discussion, the officials were of the opinion that one of Subedi or Renu Chand, who had a 6-year tenure, should be made the Speaker of the National Assembly. Some people were also of the opinion that Aryal, who is currently the vice-chairman of the National Assembly, should be made a candidate if a person with a tenure of four years should be nominated. Some friends said that Jhakku Subedi or Renu Chand, who had a tenure of 6 years, should be made the president. It was also said that a woman should be made the Speaker of the National Assembly. There were also those who said that Narayan Dahal should be made the president because he was old and did not get an opportunity. 

Chairman Dahal, who heard the different views of the office bearers, announced that the meeting was over by saying 'Let's decide to make Narayan Dahal a candidate'. Secretary Chakrapani Khanal announced the decision after the meeting. There was a wide discussion about the Speaker of the National Assembly. The decision of the meeting was to make Narayan Dahal a candidate, said Khanal. 

Some leaders, including the Maoist MPs, have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the officials to make the Prime Minister's brother a candidate for the Speaker of the National Assembly. A Member of Parliament who is also a member of the Standing Committee said, 'There must be a consensus to make the National Assembly Speaker. There had to be a base. To be nominated by the president and eat the president?' 

With this decision of the Maoists, Narayan Dahal will become the candidate for the National Assembly Speaker from the ruling coalition. Dahal will be the joint candidate of Maoist, UML, United Samajwadi Party and Jaspa of the ruling coalition representing the National Assembly. In the 8-point agreement between the ruling coalition on February 21, it is mentioned that they will support the Maoist candidate for the Speaker of the National Assembly. President Dahal said in the meeting of the party parliamentary party held on Saturday that the reason for breaking the alliance with the Congress immediately was the election of the National Assembly Speaker. 

Dahal, who has been in office for four years, was nominated as a member of the National Assembly by the President on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers in March 2078. Dahal, whose permanent address is Chitwan, has been active in the party since 2031, according to the book 'Details of Federal Parliament Members, 2080' published by the Federal Parliament Secretariat. Before that he was active in student politics since 2027. He has been a member of the Maoist Central Committee since 2057. Dahal became a member of the Interim Legislative Parliament in 2063 after the Maoist peace process. In the first Constituent Assembly election held in 2064, Dahal was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly from Chitwan-3. Earlier, when Pushpa Kamal Dahal was the Prime Minister, he has also been an advisor.

The ruling coalition has a majority in the National Assembly. Maoists are the first party in the National Assembly with 17 MPs. There are 39 MPs in the National Assembly with the power alliance comprising UML 10, United Samajwadi 8 and JSP 3. A majority of 30 MPs will be required to be nominated for the Speaker of the National Assembly. Nominated Vamdev Gautam has not revealed where he will cast his vote.

Congress has nominated Yuvraj Sharma as the Speaker of the National Assembly. Congress has 16 MPs in the National Assembly. Congress made Krishna Prasad Sitaula a member of the National Assembly by making him the Speaker of the National Assembly. However, after the alliance with the Maoists was broken, the Congress put forward Sharma as a candidate. 74-year-old Sharma hails from Banke. In 2045, he served as the chairman of the Banke Congress, and in 2028, he was the vice president when Deuba was the chairman of the New Union. He was left behind politically due to a dispute with leader Sushil Koirala, and he even became a rebel candidate twice. He was elected as a member of the National Assembly in 2078 as a candidate from a five-party alliance.
