Only 75 percent planting has been done in the district by the end of June. Ramjeevan Thakur, head of Krishi Gyan Kendra Parsa, said that there was good planting in the northern and western parts of the district.
In the north-western part, most of the farmers have gone to plant because of the water from the Kulo, Gandak canal and heavy monsoon rains. He said that planting is less in the southern part compared to the northern and western parts.
Due to the access to water of Gandak Canal, irrigation from private boreholes and rains two weeks ago, some farmers went to plant. Since then, most of the paddy crops are drying up due to less water, he said.
He also said that the farmers got some relief after the rains for the past week. He mentioned that in the municipalities south of the Gandak canal, planting is less.
Stating that he is unaware of the Madhesh state government's relief to farmers, he said, "I have heard that some work is being done in this regard in Janakpur, but I do not know how much progress has been made in this regard." The main crop of the district is paddy. Most of the farmers have their paddy harvest ready, but they have not been able to plant because there is not enough water in the fields for planting. Rice is cultivated in almost all municipalities of the district.
