Unopposed representatives have been elected in 4 districts of Lumbini Province for the 11th general convention of the CPN-UML. Efforts are being made to reach consensus in 4 districts by late Saturday, while elections are underway in 4 districts.

Of the 12 districts of Lumbini, Rukum East, Bardiya, Dang, and Pyuthan have been unanimously elected.

Efforts are being made to get unanimous representatives elected in Rolpa, Gulmi, Banke, and Kapilvastu. Elections are being held unopposed in three areas of Rupandehi, which has 5 constituencies, and in 2 areas. Similarly, elections are also being held in Palpa, Arghakhanchi, and West Nawalparasi.

According to UML Lumbini Province President Radhakrishna Kandel, there are 82,135 organized members in Lumbini. Out of them, 190 general convention representatives are being elected from geography, committees, and public organizations. 7 people have been unanimously elected from Rukum East, 15 from Bardiya, 22 from Dang, and 8 from Pyuthan.

Rupandehi's constituency no. 16 people have been elected unopposed from constituencies 3, 4 and 5. Elections are being held for 6 people in constituency 1 and 10 people in constituency 2. Similarly, elections are being held in both constituencies of Palpa. Tej Prasad Rasaili has been elected unopposed from Dalits in Palpa, and Toj Bahadur Rayamajhi from the under-40 age group in Arghakhanchi. Elections are being held for others. Tulsi Pasi has been elected unopposed from Dalits in West Nawalparasi. Elections are ongoing for others.

In Lumbini, a competition has been seen between the Establishment (KP Oli) faction and the Ishwor Pokharel faction in the selection of representatives. After the Pokharel faction opposed the Establishment faction's efforts to make it unopposed, voting is being held in Rupandehi, Palpa, West Nawalparasi, and Arghakhanchi, which have a large number of voters. Discussions between the parties to hold elections and the consensus-based ones in Kapilvastu and Banke continued till 5:30 pm. UML Lumbini Province President Kandel said that efforts to hold elections and reach consensus are also ongoing in places where there are many aspirants for representatives. ‘This is not a fight between the two parties, but because of the efforts of many friends to become representatives,’ he said. Lumbini is the province of UML Vice President Bishnu Poudel and Yubaraj Gyawali, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, Secretaries Gokarna Bista, Chhabilal Bishwakarma, and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi.

All other office bearers except Rayamajhi had been active in the selection of representatives by making a strategic plan. Since the leaders including Vice President Poudel moved forward in their own way without taking any side, the leaders and activists are assessing that the establishment party failed to get the votes as expected and select their representatives who would achieve consensus in many.

53 women, 19 Dalits and at least 26 youth under the age of 40 will be selected from Lumbini Province. There is a provision for 80 people to be elected to open positions. Chairman Kandel said that 190 representatives will be selected when 5 people are selected from the provincial committee and 7 from the labor organization.
