80 people have died of tuberculosis in Rupandehi in one and a half years due to lack of timely diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, District Health Office Rupandehi organized an interactive program on tuberculosis in Bhairahawa on Sunday. It has been reported that from July 2080 to March 2081, 2 thousand 779 people were infected with tuberculosis in Rupandehi.

Head of Health Office Rupandehi, Chintamani Gyawali, said that not recognizing the disease in time, not taking regular medicine and infection with HIV are the main reasons for death from tuberculosis.

According to Health Office Rupandehi, 2 thousand 12 tuberculosis patients were found in Rupandehi in the year 2080/081. Since then, 776 new patients have been found from July to December 2081. According to the statistics of

2080/081, the highest number is 443 in Butwal sub-metropolitan municipality, 271 in Tilottma municipality, 170 in Siddharthnagar municipality, 146 in Sainamaina municipality, 123 in Lumbini cultural municipality, 139 in Devdah municipality, 110 in Mayadevi rural municipality, 96 in Kanchan rural municipality. There are 86 patients in Gaidahwa village, 82 in Omasatiya village, 77 in Suddhodhan village, 65 in Kothimai village, 62 in Rohini village, 53 in Marchwari village, 49 in Sammarimai village and 49 in Siyari village.

Out of that number, 1,237 people are patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.

Tikaram Adhikari, the focal person of tuberculosis at the health office, said that there are many problems because the patients who are being treated think they are cured after two months of medication and then do not take regular medication.
