The Palpa section of Siddharth Highway has started one-way operation since Sunday morning after the landslides that fell in more than a dozen places due to incessant rain for three days.
Since Friday, more than a dozen places such as Siddhababa, Jhumsa, Nidhekhola, Kerabari, Dumre, Bertung, Dhaireni, Agahakhola, Pipaldanda and other places under the Palpa section of the highway were blocked and reopened due to landslides.
According to Durga Gautam, Information Officer of Road Division, Palpa, the Siddharth Highway connecting north-south has been blocked and reopened several times since Friday afternoon. As a result, hundreds of passengers and vehicles were stranded for a long time. According to Information Officer Gautam, the passengers and vehicles stranded on the highway could be sent to their destinations after the landslides cleared in Angahakhola at midnight on Saturday. This highway connects Lumbini and Gandaki provinces.
Since Sunday morning, one-way traffic is in operation on Siddharth Highway from Butwal to Syangja border. Hundreds of passengers had to suffer when the highway, which was blocked since Friday afternoon and opened on Saturday morning, was blocked again in the afternoon. .
According to information officer Gautam, landslides have occurred in new places. There was no sign of landslides in places such as Kerabari, Agahakhola in the past. Rambha Rural Municipality-3, Pipaldanda's Agahakhola has also been affected by the landslide. . About 15 houses here have been hit by landslides. According to Ward President Thaman Bahadur Gaha, a landslide with large stones from the upper part of the road has caused the fall and mud in some houses.
The landslide occurred around 2 pm on Saturday. Ward president Gaha said that only one-way small vehicles were sent to their destination at 12 o'clock at night. Passengers had to suffer due to the delay in removing the landslide. Vehicles going from Syangja to Butwal, Bhairahwa were queued for more than four kilometers. Similarly, vehicles going from Butwal, Bhairahawa to Syangja, Pokhara were in a long line of more than three kilometers.
The equipment with the road division is weak. Although they tried to remove the landslide by using two loaders and an excavator, there was a lot of delay. Passengers have complained that they would have to suffer for a long time if the equipment of the China State Company for the tunnel project had not arrived due to the landslide in Kerabari.
Passengers from Syangja, Pokhara, Parbat, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Baglung, Mustang, including Palpa pass through Siddharth highway, in more than 5000 vehicles daily.
