The Mechi highway, which was blocked due to floods, is still not operational. Traffic has been completely stopped after a huge landslide occurred on the Ilam-Rajduwali road section located in Ilam municipality-9 under the Mechi highway.

Road Division Ilam, local residents and security personnel have been continuously trying to open the road for a week but have not been successful yet. The technical team of the road department and local residents are trying to open the road .

Pawan Bhattarai, division head of the road division office said that efforts are being made to open the road. He said that there was a problem in operating the road due to a large landslide. 'We are working day and night to open the road,' he said, 'but the whole hill has been washed away, so there is a problem.' The road division has used three excavators to remove the landslide.

Assistant Chief District Officer Bholanath Guragai said that as the road is under repair, the operation of the road has been stopped until it is repaired so that traffic can be carried safely. 'The road section is under repair . We have stopped the operation of the road until it is repaired so that traffic can be carried on safely,' he said.

Rajduwali and Milgolai of Ilam-Nepaltar section of the highway have been heavily damaged . The road division has informed that the obstruction of Milgolai has been removed. After removing the obstruction of Milgolai, the traffic has been started from Panchthar and Taplujeng to Rajduwali Pahoro.

Transport is in regular operation from Jhapa to Maikhola via Fikkal. But as the road is still blocked due to the landslide in Rajduwali, the passengers of Panchthar, Taplejung and Jhapa along with Ilam have been affected.

Vehicles going to Jhapa from Panchthar and Taplejung along with Ilam are stopped at Rajduwali Pahoro and vehicles going to Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung from Jhapa are stopped at Maikhola. Passengers have to walk about one and a half kilometers from that place to the top of the landslide. The security personnel are assisting the sick and elderly citizens by carrying them on stretchers from across Maikhola to above Rajduwali and from above Rajduvali to across Maikhola.

Puwakhola under the Mechi Corridor (Kechna-Kanchenjunga road) and Jogmaikhola bailey bridge under Tilkeni-Simalgolai road, which are being used as alternative roads, have also been washed away by floods, so no road from Ilam to Jhapa has been opened . Due to the floods, most of the local municipalities in the district have been cut off from the road network with the headquarters.

Five of the 10 local levels of the district have been disconnected from the road network with the headquarters so far. Due to the blocking of the Rajduwali road section, Suryodaya municipality, Belase road section bridge was broken, Mai municipality, Deumai municipality due to the collapse of Mangsebung rural municipality, Jogmai river bailey bridge was washed away and the roads of Maijogmai rural municipality were damaged due to the damage of the roads to Phakphokthum rural municipality headquarters.

In Ilam, 19 concrete bridges, two baileybridges, 11  Culverts and three suspension bridges have been damaged and 31 roads have been damaged, according to the district administration office. Here, 39 people have died and 26 people have been injured and one person is missing.
