On the second day of Gaijatra and Hillejatra festival in Khandbari, the headquarters of Sankhuwasabha, musical and comedy performances made Khandbari even more colorful on Saturday night. The audience stayed till the end of the program despite the torrential rain.
Khandbari Youth Club, which organized the festival, brought Rock Head Band and Aastha and the Brothers Band on stage on the second day. Rock Heads performed popular rock songs like Hazar Janm, Rang, Sahara, Dhun etc. and forced the audience to dance. The sight of the crowd from the young to the old swaying to the rhythm of the song brought a wave of excitement to the festival venue. Along with the rhythm of
music, the dose of laughter also became a special attraction of the festival. Famous comedian Sandeep Chhetri and his team made the crowd laugh out loud with light-hearted jokes, sarcasm and situational humour. His satires were mixed with daily life experiences, rural-urban differences, politics and cultural contexts, which brought both laughter and applause from the entire audience.
With the declaration of 2082 as the 'Koshi Pradesh Tourism Year' by the Koshi State Government, Khandbari Youth Club has organized this festival on the occasion of Gaijatra Festival with the aim of promoting the historical and cultural heritage of Sankhuwasabha. The
festival included Gaijatra cultural tableaux of the Newari community, local produce and handicrafts exhibition, tasting stalls of original dishes, folk culture and dance, as well as performances by national and international artists. According to the organizers, this festival has shown the cultural diversity and tourism potential of Sankhuwasabha for foreign tourists and visitors from different parts of the country. According to Suren Shakya, president of
club, stalls and food exhibitions of ethnic and original dishes have attracted both tourists and locals. He also said that he plans to organize this festival in a grander manner every year.
