The government has allocated a budget of 86 billion 24 million rupees for the financial year 2081/082 towards health. For the current fiscal year 2080/081, the Ministry of Health and Population received 83 billion 99 rupees.
The government has announced a total budget of 18 trillion 60 billion 300 million rupees for the coming year, but only 4.64 percent of the total budget has been allocated for the health sector. Which is very less compared to previous years . Compared to the current fiscal year, the budget has increased by 2 billion 25 million rupees, but it is less compared to the total budget. Last year, the government allocated 4.8 percent of the total budget for health.
The government had announced a budget of 1 trillion 3 billion 18 crore rupees for the financial year 2079/080. Which was 5.75 percent of the total budget at that time . Similarly, the government had announced a budget of about 1 billion 35 trillion rupees for the financial year 2078/079 due to the epidemic of covid. Which was 7.45 percent of the total budget.
Although experts say that at least 10 percent of the total budget should be set aside for the improvement of the health sector, the government has been reducing the share of the total budget in the health sector every year.
It seems that the government has continued the old programs in the health sector this year. This year, no other infrastructure construction plans have been announced in Kathmandu University except for the establishment of Sita Dahal Memorial College of Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and the construction of infrastructure.
