The Maldhunga-Beni-Jomsom-Korola road project under the Kaligandaki corridor has declared 4 of the 9 'risky' landslides in the 38 km road section up to Beni-Lete as 'high risk'.
According to the project, there are 35 small landslides in the 38 km section of Beni-Lete. Among them, Vaisari Landslide, Siruvari Landslide, Guithe Landslide and Khambhita Landslide are 'high risk' landslides. Similarly, Galeshwar Landslide, Tatopani Landslide, Latakhola Landslide, Rupsechhara and Kaprevir are dangerous landslides.
'Travelling during monsoon season is dangerous due to 9 landslides in the 38 km road section of the Myagdi section of the Beni-Jomsom-Korola road . Four more are very dangerous landslides,' Maldhunga-Beni-Jomsom-Korola road project engineer Vishnu Chapagain said, 'We have kept excavators and loaders on standby for the entire monsoon period as landslides occur in these places as soon as it rains. You have to be a little careful while traveling on this road.'
After the onset of monsoon, these landslides in the Beni-Lete section block traffic at some point during the day. Pedestrians and vehicular passengers are at risk due to continuous rain and stones falling from the landslide-prone hills.
The Kaligandaki river flowing between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains is a high risk area of the world's deepest 'blind' rock slide. And from this Andhagalchi, Beni-Jomsom-Korla road road expansion program is going on under Kaligandaki Corridor of National Pride along Kaligandaki River. This area is also a constant threat to the coastal settlements of Kaligand.
'If the landslides on the Beni-Jomsom road are not treated, the future of this North-South highway is in crisis, so the landslides are being studied by geologists,' Beni-Jomsom-Korola road project chief Dhruv Jha said, 'Baisari, Siruwari, Guithe and Since there is a problem of root coming out and flowing inside the pillar landslide, it is very complex, so there is a plan to insert a pipe inside the landslide and take out the water inside the ground through a horizontal drain.' The
project has predicted that it will cost more than 600 million rupees at an average rate of 60 million rupees to prevent 10 landslides . However, the cost estimate and DPR have not been prepared as the geological study of the landslides is ongoing.
