Rights activist says – Rude jokes from those who don’t like women’s abilities and ideas
Women’s rights activist Sanjog Thakuri said that the patriarchal mindset that views women as objects of adornment and attraction still prevails in society. According to her, the trend of keeping women as objects of adornment at public programs, stages and receptions has persisted and the tendency of not accepting women outside has affected female candidates.
‘Society does not like women who have opinions, are active in policy making and organizational discussions. A thoughtful and questioning woman is not acceptable to a male-dominated group,’ he said, ‘Those who don’t like women’s abilities and ideas make rude and obscene comments, which is a direct result of gender violence and patriarchal thinking.’
He said that even though women have been empowered in education, profession and public life, society is still lagging behind in how to cooperate with them. He says that the situation on social media is now visible in which society is not easily accepting women after they start presenting their ideas, abilities, and leadership.
