Folk rock band 'Nepathi' is currently on a musical tour in America. On August 3rd, the band started their musical tour of America with a performance in the city of Denver, Colorado. On Saturday, they performed at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco, California.

The band is performing at the Kemba Live Concert Venue in Columbus, Ohio on August 17th. The band will then return home from the US with a tour of Texas, Dallas, New York, Maryland and a show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on September 7th. Buddhisagar Marasini of Kantipur had a conversation with singer Amrit Gurung of Nepathya about the band's musical journey to America, future plans and challenges in the music industry. America's music tour is all about meeting, interacting and entertaining our listeners there. This is our sixth trip to America and this year we are visiting seven cities.  How easy is it for any actor to program a foreign role? abroad or domestically, the program has its own challenges. The biggest challenge for artists is agile management. As Nepali has taken over the management for Nepathia everywhere in the country and abroad, everything is easy.

is made easier by the fact that the key technicians we need are coming with us from Nepal. In terms of program production, our program standards are maintained by our technicians and management. So now it is very easy. Earlier, traveling alone as an artist was very uncomfortable and compromising. Easy now. 

Where are the events taking place during the trip to America?

has already completed events in Colorado on August 3 and San Francisco on August 10. Nepathya was presented again after a gap of eight years at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco.

Then the band will perform in Columbus, Ohio on August 17th, Dallas, Texas on August 24th, New York on September 30th, Maryland on September 1st and finally Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on September 7th. How many members are involved in the

musical tour and what are their roles?

Currently there are 5 technicians and 2 managers in sound, light, videography and photography along with 6 actors.

Who is the organizer or supporter of this trip to America?

Our collaboration is with Dallas-based Momo Entertainment. Through them, local event companies in other states and cities have taken responsibility for the project. 

In what sense is this musical journey different from the past? 

In America, we were not able to come and do the show with our entire technical team. In that sense, the programs for this trip are and will be more organized than ever before in America. Also, the program will be held in class halls everywhere, so the experience of watching the program will be unforgettable for everyone.  

How were the performances in Denver, Colorado and San Francisco, California? The

program will be evaluated by the audience and listeners. are In that sense, looking at the feedback expressed by the audience here on social media, the program was successful from all three aspects: performance (presentation), production (production) and participation (participation). 

How did you get support from the audience and listeners during those presentations?

The audience was decent, loving. According to the local organizers, the presence of such a large number of spectators is historic for a Nepali program. Three generations of audience came to the show and we all enjoyed together. 

Nepathya performed in America for the first time 20 years ago? What is the difference between then and now?

had to compromise a lot in program production at that time. Now that situation is experienced. The artist gets to focus on the show, the management takes care of the rest. Has been easy and convenient. 

Nepathya has done programs in different cities of 17 countries so far, which country's program do you think was more successful?

has been repeated in Australia the most times in 17 countries. Every time, we find that the programs there set new benchmarks of success. London's Wembley has a history of its own in terms of wider events. But there could not be a bigger event than Australia. After Australia, the experience of Japan and Canada is also good. 

Nepathya's program is attended by viewers and listeners of all age groups, what is the special reason for that?

It's great to see three generations come together and enjoy our show. It seems that Nepaliness, folk language and social sentiments in Nepathya's music worked. 

What kind of contribution do you think Nepathya made through music to unify the Nepali diaspora community?

Like Nepal, migration is also divided into different castes, religions and beliefs. This is the sad reality. At Nepathya, we talk about the importance of Nepali spirit and common Nepali language, regardless of caste, religion, faith. We believe that the Nepalese cause will remain strong if all those abroad are united. Our appeal is to live together. 

Lately, Nepali artists have started giving priority to programs abroad than within the country, what could be the reason for this? There is no proper platform for

program in Nepal. Most artists have to rely on festivals. The municipality of Nepal has built an event venue on its own initiative and plans for the event will increase. With the increase in the number of Nepalis abroad, it is natural that the organization of the program will increase. 

New songs of Nepathya have been published very rarely in recent years, what is the reason for this? 

Nepathya has released less than 100 songs from a total of 10 albums in his 30-year journey. Now, instead of albums, the trend of releasing single songs from YouTube has started. Our last song 'Pachasai Bawan' was released seven months ago. We have included this song in the present program as well. Some more songs are ready.

 What does an artist need for a new creation? And, what is your source of energy?

Innovation is the product of discovery. Constant study and travel are my sources of energy.  How important is age or experience to a

artist?

Mind is more important than age, experience is wealth. 

When will the audience get to hear/see Nepathya's new song? Some

s are in the process of recording. There are plans to release 3-4 new songs within 2024. 

What kind of activities are you planning to do in the field of Nepali music in the future? 

Let's keep working. Let's see how far it will go.  How many more years of your activity as a

singer? I will always be in

music. Socially active or inactive, time will guide. 

As a successful and experienced singer, what would you like to say to the new generation who are looking for a future in music?
