Electric dominance in automobiles

Unstable policies have caused problems for businessmen, which is why they are afraid to invest. It is not good for policies to change with each change of government.

Public transport facilities in Nepal started much later. During the Rana regime, high-ranking officials used to bring their own vehicles and ride them. Initially, vehicles were brought to the Kathmandu Valley by truck. At that time, the road infrastructure was not good. Commercial sales of vehicles came much later. Commercial sales are believed to have started sporadically from the 2020s.

After the advent of democracy in Nepal, vehicles gradually started coming to Nepal from outside . At that time, the wealthy Rana family and the royal family used to bring more vehicles . Later, during the reign of King Mahendra, road infrastructure started to be built . At first, private vehicles started plying on them . After the highway was built, passenger and freight vehicles started to be brought and used . At that time, more vehicles were plying in the valley .

At that time, the commercial sale and distribution of vehicles from neighboring India to other countries had advanced a lot . After it was said that vehicles could also be sold commercially, the development of road infrastructure in Nepal started to increase .

Initially, Maruti Suzuki expanded its market in Nepal . And it also sold more . Toyota, Tata, Honda vehicles also gradually expanded their market . They moved forward commercially . This was between 2035 and 2040.

Initially, after the construction of the Prithvi Highway, Siddhartha Highway, and later the East-West Highway, the demand and sales of vehicles increased . Industrialization also began in Nepal during this period .

Initially, vehicles were imported from America and Japan . It took months to import vehicles from abroad . The situation is still the same . It takes time because they come through a third country . Vehicles coming from India and China arrive quickly .

The number of businesses and entrepreneurs in Nepal gradually increased . And in 2032 BS, the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal was formed . The formation of the organization meant raising the voice of entrepreneurs . It became easier to make policies through the organization . Entrepreneurs united .

The organization was formed so that automobile entrepreneurs should be integrated . At that time, the king's reign also began. Those close to the palace used to bring vehicles in large quantities. Four-wheeled vehicles were imported more than two-wheeled vehicles. Later, two-wheeled vehicles were imported more. Its commercialization was more pronounced after the 2050s.

Roads and vehicles are one of the bases for knowing how developed a country is. Then, car showrooms started opening. The attraction for two-wheelers and four-wheelers gradually increased. After the 2060s, vehicle imports increased. The formation of organizations for commercialized vehicles also increased. Imports of large and small vehicles increased.

After roads reached every village, the demand for vehicles increased rapidly. The demand for jeeps increased accordingly. This demand still exists. After the 70s, there seems to have been an increase in private vehicles. Because during this period, financial access also increased. Financing facilities were provided to buy vehicles.

Although petrol vehicles were imported initially, the number of electric vehicles has been increasing recently. The number of direct jobs in this sector is around 100,000. There are around 1 million indirect jobs. There is an investment of more than one trillion in this sector.

One of the bases for knowing how developed any country is is its roads and vehicles. The condition of a country is assessed by looking at the roads before the city and the houses built there.

Electric dominance in automobiles

There is a big difference between the vehicles of 10 years ago and today. Prices have decreased compared to before. Facilities have been added. Quality road infrastructure has been built now compared to before. The East-West Highway is being expanded and upgraded. The Kathmandu-Terai/Madhesh expressway is also being built. Corridor roads are under construction in places. Road infrastructure is being built that looks like those in foreign countries.

Vehicle imports were stopped in Nepal a few years ago due to the decrease in foreign exchange reserves. Auto shows could not be held at that time. Demand for electric vehicles was gradually increasing. We held auto shows only for electric vehicles. After that, its demand has been increasing well. Accordingly, the number of users has also increased.

As the number of electric vehicles increases, its infrastructure is also being built. The private sector itself is investing in it. It is also increasing. But the government's investment in it has decreased. Even though the Nepal Electricity Authority has installed charging stations on highways, it is not enough. There is a problem of skilled technicians.

The production modality of diesel and petrol-powered vehicles and electric vehicles is very different .  Even though the company has provided technical services, it is not enough . In urban areas, where there is a showroom from the private sector, we have prepared manpower . Charging stations have been installed in many places .

Currently, 75 percent of all cars and jeeps that come are electric vehicles . Many passenger vehicles, trucks, excavators, and heavy equipment with more than 20 seats run on diesel and petrol . It seems that it will take some time for such vehicles to shift to electric vehicles .

The customs rate on the import of large vehicles is only 1 percent . Now it is necessary to move to passenger vehicles . Road infrastructure in metropolitan cities, municipalities or urban areas should be easy . We should move to 'mass transport' . And public vehicles should be electric . Arrangements should be made to transport passengers to their destinations quickly

The customs duty on imports of vehicles with more than 15 seat capacity is only 1 percent  . This arrangement should be maintained for 10 years  . We must also use public vehicles for traffic management

The government's policy in the assembly industry should be stable to encourage entrepreneurs  . Entrepreneurs have invested heavily in it  . But due to unstable policies, entrepreneurs have been hit, which is why entrepreneurs are afraid to invest  .

Yet the assembly industry is in the process of opening  . 6/7 such industries have already closed  . After the Gen-G movement, there is fear of whether to invest heavily in this sector      The automobile sector was targeted more during the Gen-G movement. The government has given concessions to the assembly industry, which is commendable. But there is always a fear of what will change when the budget comes out every year.
