New plans under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport are not included in the budget for the next financial year. There is a continuation of the old project. The budget has been increased for large, strategic and national pride projects.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel said that construction of modern infrastructure such as expressways, underpasses and overpasses will be continued in the coming financial year.

It is mentioned in the budget statement presented by Finance Minister Paudel in both houses of Parliament on Thursday that the national highway will be upgraded from 2 lanes to 8 lanes based on the needs. The government has also adopted a policy of opening new tracks for roads only where they are economically, technically and environmentally suitable. Accordingly, the budget has been allocated by giving priority to road infrastructures which are in the final stages of construction and are of strategic importance.

During the construction of the Madhyapahari Highway, which is frequently faced with problems in the drawing, the existing drawing will be modified to reduce the travel time, cost, distance and accidents. It is mentioned in the budget statement that preparations will be made to upgrade the highway to a dedicated double lane with tunnel and viaduct technology if necessary. A total budget of 3.94 billion rupees has been allocated for that. This is 26 million rupees more than the current year. In the current year, a budget of 3 billion 68 million rupees has been allocated.

A budget of 3.56 billion rupees has been allocated to complete the construction of postal highway within two years. This is 26 million rupees more than the current year. In the current year, 3 billion 30 million rupees have been allocated for this route. Finance Minister Paudel claims that the construction of the Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhesh expressway (fast track) is being completed within 2083/84. 24 billion 49 crore rupees have been allocated for fast track. In the current year, 22 billion 54 crore rupees were allocated.

The government has a strategy to speed up the construction and upgrading of Karnali, Kaligandaki and Koshi corridors. According to this, 1.27 billion rupees have been allocated for the Karnali corridor, 2.33 billion rupees for upgrading the Khandbari-Dovankhand and Kaligand corridors of the Koshi corridor. 4.43 billion rupees have been allocated for the Karnali, Kaligandaki and Koshi corridors this year.

The government has started the construction of Madan Bhandari Highway from Bahundangi in Jhapa to Rupal in Dadeldhura and has started the construction of the Madan Bhandari Highway. In the current year, 3 billion 600 million rupees were allocated for the said highway.

8.52 billion has been allocated to expand the Nagadhunga-Muglin section of the Prithvi Highway into dedicated two lanes. Finance Minister Poudel also said that the necessary budget has been allocated for the reconstruction of roads such as BP Highway, Araniko Highway, Kanti Highway, Mechi Highway, which were damaged by the floods of last October. 3.18 billion rupees have been allocated for the construction of roads and bridges on the national highway.

In the next fiscal year, 2 billion 600 million rupees have been allocated to construct the Nagdhunga and Siddhababa tunnels. An additional 850 km of road asphalt and 171 road bridges will be constructed in the national pride and major road project. Within two years, the government aims to upgrade the 422 kilometers of Kakdavitta-Laukhi, Kamala-Kanchanpur, Kamala-Bagamati, Bagmati-Pathalaiya, Butwal-Narayangadh, Butwal-Gorusinge sections of the East-West Highway to 4 lanes.

A detailed project report of the Kathmandu-Kerung railway will be prepared in the coming financial year. The construction of railroads connecting Newalpaigudi-Kankadvitta, Nautanwa-Bhairawa and Nepalgunj Road-Nepalgunj of border south border will also be started from the next financial year.

The overall budget of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport for the next fiscal year has been increased only slightly. In the current financial year, 1 trillion 50 billion 53 billion rupees have been allocated, 1 trillion 52 billion rupees have been allocated for the next year.

Former Secretary Arjunjung Thapa said that even though the Ministry of Planning has done well by not keeping small pieces, the overall budget allocation is not enough. "The construction of the fast track, which is considered important from every point of view, should be completed quickly. For that, adequate budget allocation was not done, and the necessary budget was not allocated for other projects under construction," he said. He said that it is not necessary to allocate the budget by giving priority to the projects which are in the final stage of construction.
