2024 was an average year for road infrastructure. Floods and landslides caused the most damage to the road infrastructure. Even more damage was done on the BP highway that connects the capital with the eastern Terai. Now this road has been temporarily constructed by crossing the river. Due to lack of budget, the contract for permanent transmission could not be concluded. More than 7 thousand vehicles pass through this road every day.

The 12 km road of Kavrevanjang-Nepalthok section was damaged by the landslide that occurred from October 10 to 12. Its 8.7 km section of the road has been washed away by the Roshi River.  Due to the high volume of traffic on the road built by diversion, there is a problem of traffic jams every day. There is a problem on the road from Chowkidanda in Kavre to Mulkot. There is more problem in Chowkidanda to Nepalthok section.

The flood caused less damage in the Sindhuli section and more damage in the Kavre section. The study that has been started for its construction is now in its final stage . According to the preliminary study, it is estimated that the construction will cost 9.5 billion. So far, the budget has not been approved. The road department claims to be able to start construction by Baisakh if the budget is received.

Under the BP highway, 158 km from Dhulikhel in Kavre to Bardibas in Mahottari has been constructed with the help of the Japanese government. It took about 20 years to build. The construction of this road started in 1996 to connect the capital with Eastern Terai and was completed in 2015 and handed over to Nepal by Japan. The flood has now caused the most damage to this road.

On October 11, the Nagadhunga-Naubise-Muglin road section became unstable due to landslides accompanied by incessant rains . The government machinery had to deal with landslides in more than 500 places. Traffic came to a standstill. Passengers and daily consumables could not enter the capital. Landslides caused huge human losses in the road section . A landslide near the Jhaple river, which is 2.7 km from Nagadhunga, swept away two buses and a passenger bus. Year 2024 : An average year for road infrastructure

35 passengers were buried in the landslide and died. During a year the most  Ramhari Pokharel, director general of the road department, said that the major damage was caused to the road infrastructure. "The flood washed away the road, causing human losses," he said, "on the whole, the year 2024 was an average year for road infrastructure."

Khurkot bridge of Sunkoshi river connecting Sindhuli and Ramechhap was washed away by flood . Where under the leadership of the Nepalese army, the road was temporarily constructed as a bailey bridge. Floods damaged more than half a dozen bridges in Khotang, Sindhupalchok and other districts. The flooded BP highway was operational from October 25. Kanti Highway was also put into operation before Dasain.

Similarly, floods damaged the Chandragiri-Chitlang-Kunchal-Hetaunda, Kathmandu-Dakshinkali-Sisneri-Kulekhani-Hetaunda and Naubise-Palung-Hetaunda roads . These roads were repaired and put into operation before Dasain. Like the previous year, this year too, the land dispute of the Khokna section of the Kathmandu/Tarai-Madhesh expressway (fast track) could not be resolved . The problem of the section of 6.5 km not being resolved has affected the overall project . Likewise, no progress could be made this year in the expansion of the second section of the ring road like the previous year.

The progress of this road means that a letter was signed between the representatives of the Nepalese and Chinese governments regarding cooperation in expansion. After that there is no further progress . On August 6, a letter was signed between the representatives of the Nepalese and Chinese governments regarding cooperation in expansion. But even after four months, there has been no progress. The second section is going to extend 8.2 km road from Kalanki to Bashundhara Curve with China's grant . Due to random destruction of the road, the misery of dust and traffic jam has been added.

2024 also saw some achievements in the infrastructure sector. Two tunnels under the popular fast track project have been broken. The two tunnels coming from Nijgarh towards Kathmandu and going from Kathmandu to Nijgarh in Makwanpur's Lendanda and Dhedre were breached . The section of Dhedre tunnel coming from Nijgarh to Kathmandu was broken last May, its distance is 1.65 km. The 1.728 km tunnel from Dhedre to Kathmandu towards Nijgarh was 'break through' on July 21.

The 'break through' of the 1.612 km tunnel going to Kathmandu from Nijgarh in Lendanda was done on June 20, while the 'break through' of the 1.633 km tunnel from Kathmandu to Nijgarh was done on June 4. The Mahadevtar tunnel is in the final preparations for 'break through'. After 53 months of construction, the main tunnel route of Nagadhunga-Sisne river has been 'break through' on Baisakh 3. The distance of the main tunnel is 2.688 km and now its finishing work is going on.

'A good achievement is that the Nagadhunga tunnel has been opened,' he said, 'Work is being done to bring vehicles into operation through this tunnel.' Like the previous years, there was no progress in the expansion of the Narayangadh-Butwal road this year. Passengers and drivers traveling back and forth through this section had to suffer during the journey. On the Muglin-Pokhara road section, comparatively, some progress has been made this year.

The final preparations are underway to break through the Siddhartha tunnel in Palpa under the Siddharth Highway. The length of the main tunnel is 1,126 meters. The distance of the three cross passages is 441 meters and all the three have been 'break through'. The total distance including tunnels and cross passages is 1,567 meters. Kakdavitta-Laukahi, Kamala-Kanchanpur, Nagadhunga-Muglin, Suryavinayak-Dhulikhel road expansion work, which is under contract, has not seen the expected progress.
