E-rickshaw driver's complaint: Rickshaw bought from another state cannot be driven

What you should know

Suraj Bhusal of Tilottama-6 in Rupandehi has been driving an e-rickshaw for 4 years. He is 52 years old and is earning up to 700 rupees daily. He used to be a cloth trader since he started driving a rickshaw and used to come to the rickshaw stop at 6 in the morning and return at 9 in the evening. Suraj has taken the trial test 8 times to get a rickshaw driver's license (driver's permit) but has not been able to pass.

"After filling the written form once, you can give the trial up to 3 times," he said, "I have not been able to pass, I am running a traffic jam."

"You can't go with neighbors, relatives, patients, you have to pay a fine of 5,000 if you enter Butwal," he said. "If we bring Narayani's rickshaw and register it, it will cost up to 60,000," he said. Bhusal said that the compulsion of the rickshaw drivers to drive the vehicle by paying tax at both the municipality and the transport office is a complicated problem. "No vehicle has two blue books, but we have to pay taxes on both sides, this is a problem," he said.

Even though there is no body responsible for keeping the data of how many rickshaws are plying across the district, the number of e-rickshaws registered in transport companies according to the local level remains at the local level . Krishna Prasad Tiwari, Chairman of Hariyali Transport Pvt. Ltd., Butwal, said that there are 1,440 rickshaws registered in Butwal sub-metropolitan city, while more than twice that number are running without registration. He said that even though the e-rickshaws have been managed by bringing them into the registration process, if the municipality does not manage them after discussing with the official organization, consumers will be killed. He says that if something happens to those who travel in unregistered e-rickshaws or if their belongings are lost, it is difficult to get those belongings back and the passengers cannot trust them.

Tiwari also said that other rickshaws plying on the road should be brought under the scope of action, or they should be allowed to drive only after being registered, except for the rickshaws that the municipality called for registration by the district administration office. He said that the rickshaw ride is necessary and beneficial because it is also insured for the safety of the rickshaw driver, the vehicle and the citizens.

E-rickshaws are not allowed to ply on highways. Chief Police Inspector Ranju KC of District Traffic Police Office Rupandehi said that it should be considered positive when driving on internal roads for the convenience of citizens. She said that the driver should be registered and drive with a license and that everyone should be alert to the problem in case of an incident.
