The First Lady of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton, visited Nepal on Chaitra 17, 2051. This was the first time in history that an American First Lady had visited Nepal. She was the wife of Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was elected President of the United States from 1993-2001 at the age of 42.

Hillary arrived in Kathmandu via Delhi on a special jet during her visit to the South Asian nation. Hillary was welcomed at the Tribhuvan International Airport by Queen Aishwarya and Princess Shruti. Home Minister Khadga Prasad Oli, wife Radhika Oli, US Ambassador to Nepal Sandra Bhogelgesang and high-ranking Nepali officials were present at the airport to welcome Hillary.

There was tight security at the airport and the bulletproof vehicle Hillary was travelling in was brought from the US. There was a crowd of media persons in Kathmandu to take her pictures. Sixteen journalists from the US White House Press had come to Nepal with Hillary to take pictures of her visit and collect news.

Queen Aishwarya and Hillary shook hands for about 30 seconds. The snow-capped mountains to the north of the valley in the background looked enchanting. But Nepali journalists were not allowed to take pictures. The reason was that the chief of ceremonies had stood in front of the chief of ceremonies and had blocked him. When the photojournalists asked the chief of ceremonies to remove him, saying "Chief Saheb, Chief Saheb," the moment had passed when the top woman shook hands.

Hillary, wearing a pale green coat and blue jacket, was scheduled to go from the airport to a health clinic in Kalimati. Clinton was planning to inaugurate a safe delivery equipment distribution program at a treatment center opened by American women in Nepal in 2016. While heading towards Kalimati, a group of more than 50 people, including Shakti Lamsal and Hisila Yami, showed Hillary a black flag on the road. Those who showed the black flag were affiliated with the Peruvian Revolution Support Committee. They had formed a Peruvian Communist Revolution Support Committee in Nepal and protested.

They showed Hillary a black flag while protesting the US's suppression of the communist movement in Peru. Many people who were present to show the black flag were arrested. But the police reported that 23 people were detained.

Despite the protests on the streets, Hillary reached the Kalimati clinic. She sought information about the use of family planning methods, the health of women and children, vaccinations, etc. at the health center.

In the 1950s, it was estimated that out of 100,000 women who died in Nepal, about 850 were due to unsafe childbirth. Hillary handed over materials that would make childbirth easier. It was expected that these materials would make home deliveries easier and would make it easier for midwives.

The American Information Center had informed that the materials produced in Nepal, which were approved by the then government of His Majesty the King, could be used for use in South Asia if they were successful. 12,000 women were receiving treatment at the treatment center.

Recently, only 3,000 women had registered their names . She met 20 Nepali women and learned about the product . In the evening, she met with media persons, political figures, NGOs and entrepreneurs at Dwarika's Village Hotel .

Kantipur Daily published a news on Chaitra 18, 2051 under the title 'Arrival of the American First Lady: Busy Routine', covering the visit of the first lady of the world's most powerful nation, the black flag shown against Hillary, and her concern about unsafe childbirth, almost 5 years after Nepal achieved a multi-party system.
