[Archive] That movement of 6 left components including UML

What you should know

On July 5, 2051, Nepal Bandh organized by 6 left components including UML turned violent. During the protest, activists of the bandh calling group vandalized physical structures in Ratnapark, Bhotahiti, Mahabuddha, New Road, Old Bus Park and other areas.

The police dispersed the protestors by firing tear gas, baton charge, and water fountains. As the protests intensified, the Human Rights Monitoring Committee informed that the police opened fire and injured two protestors in the capital.

UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said that there was aerial fire in Kathmandu. Home Ministry spokesperson Shrikant Regmi claimed that the protestors set fire to telephone cabinets, broke railings and pelted stones, so tear gas was used to protect public property. Regmi informed that the protestors have made the capital tense. The Ministry of Home Affairs said that 25 vehicles were damaged across the country, Chungikar Chowki at the bus park was set on fire, the glass of the map office of Kathmandu Municipality was broken, pots were broken around Judh Shalik, and the iron gate of Bhotahiti Sub-way was broken . The procession surrounded the statue of King Mahendra at Durbarmarg for some time. Anti-monarchy slogans were also raised in the procession.

The Secretary General of Nepal claimed that 400 protesters were arrested across the country. He also said that the situation of vandalism of public property was caused by the behavior of the police. But the Ministry of Home Affairs said that only 282 people were arrested.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was ignoring the issues raised by the movement. On July 6, 2051, Kantipur Dainik published news under the title 'Shots fired in Kathmandu, valley completely closed' covering the damage caused in the movement and the closure of Nepal by the left group.
