The country's politics suddenly heated up after the then General Minister of Congress, Mahendra Narayan Nidhi, claimed that there was collusion between the Durbar and Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to impose mid-term elections in the country. In the same context, he said that the Congress should also participate in the anti-Koirala movement started by the UML and start a joint movement.
In an interview given to Janakpur correspondent of Kantipur Rambharos Kapdi on 30 June 2051, Chief Minister Nidhi said this. "Now Koirala has no right to hold office," he said. Describing the mid-term elections as well-planned, Nidhi also publicized the view that 'there has been a rift between the party and the government since the party's Jhapa convention in 2048'.
There was a rift between Ganeshman and Koirala at the Kalbalgudi Mahadheeshan . During his speech in Kalbalgudhi, Ganeshman expressed his displeasure with the functioning of the government and Koirala. Citing past events, Nidhi said that Prime Minister Koirala no longer has the right to hold office after being in the minority during voting in the House of Representatives. He said that the movement of UML should now be carried out jointly and said that even if the movement is weak and elections are held, the Congress should boycott it . He demanded that Raja and Girija Prasad should reconsider the issue of elections. During the
interview, he said that most of the parliamentarians who are in favor of Girija Prasad are traitors. In response to the question whether 36 MPs will be prosecuted, Nidhi said that Girija's supporters should be prosecuted.
Referring to the defeat of Chairman Krishna Prasad Bhattarai in the by-election of Kathmandu-1 held in January 2050, Nidhi has termed that MP as an assassin. "The action against them has only been postponed," said Nidhi. He said that the Congress should be given an opportunity to run the government and if that situation does not happen, they should meet with the opposition. He demanded that an all-party government should be formed even if there is no agreement with the opposition. ![[Archive] After the Congress General Minister himself accused Koirala of colluding with the king...](https://assets-cdn.kantipurdaily.com/uploads/source/news/kantipur/2025/miscellaneous/2051-3-31-1982025080408-1000x0.jpg)
On the recommendation of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Raja Birendra announced that the mid-term elections will be held on 27 October 2051. But the left-wing party was agitating for the formation of an all-party government by removing Koirala. Ganeshman was also said to have morally supported the movement of UML due to the internal strife of the ruling party Congress.
36 Congress MPs, Ganeshman, party president Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and other leaders were against the midterms. In the Congress at that time, the chairman Bhattarai and the popular leader Ganeshman were known as 'Chattise' and MPs from the Koirala party as 'Chowhattre'.
6 out of 6 people were removed as ministers by Koirala on December 14, 2048. Chiranjeevi Wagle, Dhundiraj Shastri, Gopalman Shrestha, Taranath Ranabhat and others were removed from the ministry. The ministers of the majority government of their own party said that they came to know about their departure from the news of "Radio Nepal". "We also came to know that he was fired from the ministry through the media," Ranabhat remembers even now. The mid-term elections were like adding fuel to the fire when similar incidents had created a background of discontent in the party.
The news prepared by Kantipur Daily covering the issues of developments after the mid-term elections was published on 31 June 2051 under the title 'Mid-term elections under the leadership of Koirala are undemocratic and immoral'.
