Even now, incidents of abuse and mistreatment of MPs are heard from time to time. Such incidents happened not only now, but also 32 years ago. On March 23, 2050, Rambabu Yadav of Mahottari assaulted Congress MP Basant Kumar Gurung in front of the Singhdarbar Parliament building. In opposition to that, the parliamentarians in the House of Representatives demanded to adjourn the Parliament meeting itself.
They demanded that Home Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba should inform the House about the assault on MP Gurung. The parliamentarians had registered a proposal to postpone the meeting until the Home Minister gave the correct information. Speaker Damannath Dhungana did not allow the proposal to be discussed by ruling that Congress MP Gambhirjung Karki was the proposer and Chhabiprasad Devkota of Congress was the supporter. The parliamentarians proposed that the meeting should be postponed until Home Minister Deuba gives an explanation about the incident.
When MP Gurung was about to enter the Parliament meeting, Rambabu asked for a pass. Rambabu hit him from behind when Gurung was going to bring the pass from inside. MP Gurung said that he did not know the attacker. Rambabu, who is under police custody, accused MP Gurung of blocking active membership of the Congress.
MPs who are known as opposition within the Congress held a meeting regarding the incident and concluded that it was a sign of a well-planned attack on them. Especially due to the conflict within the Congress, the parliamentarians were divided into two parts . The speech of rebel MPs was also more aggressive against the government.
Manmohan Adhikari, the leader of the opposition party, said that this kind of incident against the parliamentarian has violated the dignity of the parliament and shows how weak the peace and security of the country is.
Opposition leader Madhav Kumar Nepal also condemned the incident on the MP in the National Assembly meeting. Speaker Dhungana said that the Parliament Secretariat will investigate this incident. He said during the conduct of the Parliament meeting, "If the event is well planned, the Parliament will consider it."
Ruling MPs Lokraj Joshi and Dhruv Sharma said that the party should take such incidents seriously. They were more critical of the government. Purna Bahadur Khadka, an MP from the ruling party, said in a sarcastic manner, "Our speech has not changed". Only the style has changed .'
Kantipur newspaper published on 24 Chait 24, 2050 news titled 'Sadan Hatamai MP Kutiye', which was prepared by focusing on the opinions expressed by MPs against it in the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
Congress anti-government MPs also made a speech in the House that the abuse of Gurung was not a conspiracy by the government. Parties including the opposition party UML also criticized the manhandling of MP Gurung. They also questioned the government .
