In Biratnagar After Raghu established in 1993, Jute Mills after the political change of 2046, the sound of Lathaling is heard even now. Almost 6 decades after its establishment, i.e. in 2050, the condition of jute mills was very critical.
In 2003, the movement started in the name of the rights of jute workers eventually turned into an anti-Rana democratic movement. Manmohan Adhikari, Girijaprasad Koirala, Tariniprasad Koirala, Yuvraj Adhikari participated in the labor movement and demanded rights. When the movement was going on, BP Koirala also joined with his supporters.
With the rise of democracy, the laborers sitting in the panchayat became a situation to seek their rights . Bandhs, strikes and sloganeering started in search of service facilities . In the 50s, the economic condition of jute mills was heading towards crisis after the situation of decreasing income but increasing financial liability in the competitive market.
General Manager Suresh Kumar Goyal met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala in February 2050 and requested 1 crore for the operation of mills. Goyal briefed the Prime Minister about Mills in detail. He said that if the proposed amount is received, the mills can be operated .
But the government did not give the amount . Mills' worth was 85 lakhs . The mills were in a financial crisis due to the expenses incurred on the topics of electricity tariff, workers' holidays etc. . The management said that the purchase price of jute has increased, but the price of the produced goods has remained stable and the loss is being incurred.
The workers had started a strike demanding various facilities . The workers had started a fast to death at the gates of the mills. General Manager Goyal had started saying that if he could not operate the mills, he would not stay in the position .
The workers had been on a hunger strike since Chait 5 with 16-point demands such as gratuity should be arranged for the workers, transfers should not be allowed against the rules, deposits should be made in the withheld reserve fund, the service conditions and regulations of the employees, 2045 should be implemented in a democratic manner.
The workers also demanded rice facility . A demand was made to rehabilitate the 181 workers who were fired. But the management was retreating saying that there is an economic crisis to meet the demands of the workers . Mills, who started the democratic movement, became very difficult to manage after the situation became miserable. Political interference is one of the reasons for it.
The future of Mills, which employed hundreds of people, was facing uncertainty. The news prepared by journalist Shankar Kharel in Biratnagar Dateline covering this context was published by Kantipur Daily under the title 'Raghupati Jute Mills: Unsankari and Management Paksha Aafnai Adanma' on Chait 14, 2050 . The jute mills, which were in crisis at that time, have now been completely closed .
