[Archive] Congress district party presidents conclude that by-election results have led to a 'catastrophic explosion'

V.No. After the defeat of Chairman Krishna Prasad Bhattarai in the by-election held in Kathmandu-1 in 2050, the division within the Nepali Congress reached the cadre level in the district/district. In particular, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said that party president Bhattarai had lost, and there was a big division in the party.

Bhattarai was defeated by UML's Vidya Bhandari in the by-election held on January 25, 2050. The party workers were divided after day after day of anger against Prime Minister Koirala.

After the crisis in the party, the chairman of 18 districts concluded that indiscipline has increased in the party. They said that anyone who goes against the party's institutional decisions and interests should be disciplined.

As the impact of the confrontation between the party's supreme leader Ganeshman Singh, Chairman Bhattarai and Prime Minister Koirala had reached the lower levels, the Chairman of Tanahun and Nawalparasi, respectively Amarraj Kaini and Krishna Chandra Nepali, held a meeting of the Chairman in Kathmandu, and it was publicized that the Kathmandu election had caused a catastrophic explosion in the party.

The district chairpersons called upon the leaders and workers to be aware of this by saying that they have been patronized and encouraged by various power centers with the intention of attacking democracy by weakening the Congress . Although Chairman Bhattarai appealed to the workers for peace, the protest programs on the streets did not stop. There was an understanding among the general workers of Kathmandu that Prime Minister Koirala played an active role in defeating President Bhattarai. That's why one side in the party was going against Koirala .

The radio statement released by Koirala on January 17, 2050, led to speculation that Bhattarai was defeated. During the election campaign, there was a slogan-rally saying that Koirala had specially appointed the leaders-activists of Nepal Vidyarthi Sangh and Congress to defeat Bhattarai . At that time, the district presidents believed that Koirala had ambushed Bhattarai. But they could not speak clearly. The chairpersons said in their proposal, "The existing division and disagreement at the leadership level is taking root in the district and it is gradually creating an atmosphere of distrust."

Supreme Congress leader Singh was very sad at the defeat of Chairman Bhattarai . But those close to Koirala used to say that Bhattarai's defeat has stopped the possible 'bargaining' for the post of Prime Minister.

After the formation of the government after 2048, the relations between Singh, Bhattarai and Koirala were not good. While Koirala was on one side, Bhattarai and Ganeshman's views seemed to be on the other side.

Prime Minister Koirala's role in the by-election in this background caused crisis in the Congress. The presidents held a joint meeting as an initiative to resolve the crisis. The news prepared by the National News Committee (RASS) covering this context was published by the Kantipur Daily on February 2, 2050 under the title "Request of the 18 district presidents of the party to solve the crisis of NC".
