[Archive] That political life of Vidya that started by defeating Krishna Prasad

Bidyadevi Bhandari went on to become an MP, a minister and twice became the president of the republic of Nepal. Even now, he has not been discussed in one way or another. Bidya Devi, who has made the history of the first woman president in the country, has now started a debate up to the level of taking the leadership of the UML again.

Even after the political change of 2046, when UML decided to make Bidyadevi a candidate in the parliamentary by-election of Kathmandu-1, who was not holding any position in the mainstream of the party, it proved to be the first and most important opening of her political life . Experts say that not only becoming a candidate, but defeating Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, one of the top personalities of the democratic movement, from Kathmandu-1 proved to be a sunrise for Vidya's political life.

In the parliamentary elections of 2048, Madan Bhandari, the then general secretary of UML, defeated Bhattarai, the then chairman of the Congress and the prime minister of the interim government, by less than a thousand votes from Kathmandu-1. After General Secretary Madan and Chief of Organization Department Jivraj Ashrit died in Dasdhunga jeep accident on 3rd May 2050, a by-election was held in Kathmandu-1 on 25th January 2050 .

After a long discussion based on the analysis that Madan's contribution will be appreciated and will get the sympathy of the voters, the UML central committee decided to make Vidya a candidate. Bhattarai said that he did not lose in the 2048 election but he was addressing the election meetings.

But finally Vidya easily won the election due to the sympathy votes collected by Madan's death and the infighting within the Congress. In the first victory procession after winning the election, Vidya said, "No one learns everything from the womb."

In the victory procession in the valley, Vidya, wearing a white dress and wearing a 'victory necklace' made of green leaves tied around her neck, accompanied by her two minor daughters, promised that 'I will keep the trust given to me by my voters and continue to be combative in every parliamentary exercise'. Leaders, workers, well-wishers and common people including UML president Manmohan Adhikari and general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal were present in the victory procession.

In a press conference held on the issue of the election, the UML president Adhikari told Kantipur in a different context, 'If I were in Krishna Prasad's place, I would have taken action against the Prime Minister.''

At that time, if Vidya had been defeated in the Kathmandu by-election, perhaps the height of Vidya would not have reached this level now. Therefore, after the announcement of the election results, political analysts commented, "Vidya Bhandari's political life has risen."

The kind of conflict that took place against Bhattarai due to factionalism is still being discussed among Congressmen. Especially, the 'ego' between the supreme leader of the Congress Ganeshman Singh and the Prime Minister Koirala gave the impression of conflict.

The news prepared by journalist Ravi Adhikari, referring to the victory rally after Vidya defeated Krishna Prasad and the by-election, was published by Kantipur daily under the title "NCPA UML's Victory Rally" on 28th January 2050 .
