Until 2044, local people used to take water from Sundhara home and drink it. Many locals around the new road used to go to Sundhara to bathe. At one time, it was a rule to take off your shoes to go to Sundhara. According to the local people, when the foundations for the construction of the Employees' Provident Fund building near Sundhara began to be dug in 2044, the water source started to dry up.

The locals had launched a campaign to pressure them not to build the building. The local stakeholders assumed that the water of Sundhara dried up due to the digging of the foundation of the building. They requested the government authorities to stop the construction of the building. Sabik also informed the Kathmandu Municipality. But the Sancha Kosh went ahead with the work, blaming the pollution of the capital for the water drying up.

The government agency did not accept the statement that the water has dried up due to the digging of the foundation to build the building. But the streams built in 1885 dried up and the sewage pooled in the vicinity.

After the water began to dry up, the technical study team made a report that the water collected from the natural surface was coming into the stream . "It is not seen that there is a source for the water to accumulate and come into the stream," the technical team said. Dr. involved in the

study. Sudarshanraj Tiwari also speculated that the water was collected not only from the surrounding area but also from Lanchaur on the north side of Kathmandu and was brought from Tewal Chaityamuni. Sundhara was divided into four parts. Each floor had 11 corners, five idols, three brass fountains, two iron fountains . There was also a stone carved with an abstract figure of a man in gold.

Not only for the golden water, but also for religious reasons, the locals used to attach great importance to it. On the day of Bhaitika of Tihar, it was customary for those who did not have siblings to take a bath in Sundhara and worship at the temple of Mahadev in Ranipokhari . Similarly, the bhajanmandali of Bhadrakali used to offer gold water. It was customary for those fasting during Indrajatra to bathe in Sundhara and break their fast.

Bathing in Sundhara was also believed to cure skin diseases. In terms of religion, it was customary for locals to bathe in Sundhan every day and eat only. But as the stream started to dry up, many were worried that their traditions would be lost.

After increasing complaints from the locals, the then mayor of Kathmandu, PL Singh, collected  Fund building construction  He also promised to protect gold by stopping it. But stones around the stream were removed and bricks were used for market management.

Regular water drinkers and bathers started getting sick . Because the taste of the water was different. The work of making a park around Sundhara was started. But the general public did not pay much attention to that. Because they were worried about the stream drying up and the garbage accumulating on the way .

The stones around Sundhara began to fall and the archaeological objects were damaged. But the Department of Archeology revealed ignorance about the construction going on in Sundhara . Due to the theft of the old artistic idol placed in Sundhara, a simple idol brought from Patan was placed . During the construction of Sundhara sewerage, one person died due to the gas released from digging the ground. Two laborers fainted while digging pits . It was assumed that gas came out from there .

The then president of the municipality, Haribol Bhattarai, stopped the construction of the Sanchaya Kosh building. But approval was given to build the building based on the technical report. But NCCN, the company that took the contract, said that it would not work. There was a plan to build two floors under the ground of the Sanchaya Kosh building, but the locals were struggling by forming the Sundhara Save Committee.

Maharani Lalita Tripura has kept Guthi land for the protection and cleanliness of Sundhara in Gangbu, Kapan, Narayansthan, Balaju and other places of the valley, the locals said. But the locals accused the employees of making the land their own. During the Rana period, it was said that Pala was also kept for Sundhara protection to be operated from Guthi . At that time, a rule was made to take off your shoes even to go to Sundhara.

Locals remember that during the Rana period, a woman named Pudki was kept to take care of the stream. A man who tried to enter Sundhara without taking off his shoes was assaulted when the woman refused to let him in. But the person who beat him was punished . The information reached the Prime Minister.

The feature news written by Hari Thapa of Kantipur about the fact that water has stopped flowing in the Sundhara, which is considered very important from the historical, religious and tourist point of view, and the streams have been buried with garbage and sewage, and the guthi land named after the stream has been lost, was published on January 21, 2050.

This situation seen in ten of 50  After 32 years, it has become even worse. It is being used for business purposes as a building of employees' provident fund. The condition of Sundhara is getting more and more dilapidated.
