The availability and reliability of air service is an important part in the promotion of tourism business, which contributes to the economic progress of the country by earning foreign currency. Especially, their easy access is indispensable to attract foreign tourists.
But the government's efforts in the expansion and reliability of air services not only today, but three decades ago were disappointing. As today, not only the purchase of ships, but also the regularization of international flights, the situation was the same 32 years ago.
In the 1950s, the roads were not only heated by chakkajam and narazulus for 41 consecutive days in the country, businessmen were complaining that the tourism business was stagnant due to non-regular international flights . On the one hand, the message that the general strike had made it difficult to move was spread all over the world, and the problem was that foreign guests could not get a ship to come to Nepal.
Private sector ships are not enough but the management of Shahi Nepal Vayu Seva Nigam was very weak before it was sitting with a single market. Flights to Europe were canceled without notice due to poor management. It had a direct impact on the tourism industry. It was estimated that the arrival of foreign tourists will decrease by 30 percent if the flight of the ship will be cancelled.
Corporation was using two 757 Boeing for international flights at that time. At that time, tourists wanted to come to Nepal by chartering from Europe. But complaints were increasing that the government-owned airline had canceled flights without notice and created an uncomfortable situation in the area. In the 50s, it was flying to London, Frankfurt and Paris in Europe. An Air Linkus 757 Boeing was scheduled to operate for charter service.
Tourism businessmen accused the government of starting flights to Paris without preparation just to save face . Narendra Brajacharya, Secretary of the Hotel Association, said that the expected enthusiasm of the tourism professionals could not be contained. He complained that the tourism business will be affected for a long time due to the continuous shutdowns by the communist parties .
Since the formation of the government under the leadership of Girija Prasad Koirala in 2048, there have been continuous strikes and general strikes even in the contemporary contexts of the country including employee agitation, Dasdhunga accident, Tanakpur agreement. The incidents of vandalism and arson directly affected the tourism business. In addition, there was no reliable air service for foreigners to come to Nepal. Covering this context, Kantipur Dainik wrote 'European flight cancellation : Crisis in tourism industry published news on 19th November 2050 .
