[Archive] Dasdhunga accident case: After the protestors broke the lock of Veer Hospital and took out the body...

The death of UML General Secretary Madan Kumar Bhandari and Head of Organization Department Jeevraj Ashrit in the Dasdhunga accident has left Kathmandu Valley almost in turmoil for two months. The protest became more intense when the verdict of the commission formed by the government and UML to investigate the accident did not agree.

The government formed a one-member commission under the chairmanship of former additional judge of the Supreme Court Prachandaraj Anil on 4th June 2050. UML formed a commission under the chairmanship of Standing Committee Member and Member of Parliament KP Sharma Oli on May 5, 2050 to investigate internally.

The Anil Commission called the Dasdhunga accident just an accident, while the Oli Commission called it a premeditated murder. UML rejected the statement of Anil Commission and demanded another all-party commission based on the decision of Oli Commission.

The then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala expressed the intention that there was no need for another commission after receiving the report of the Anil Commission. UML started the protest program by saying that Koirala's idea made the Dasdhunga accident more suspicious. In this regard, there were continuous shutdowns, strikes and vandalism in Kathmandu.

Ratna Park's railings, telephone booths were destroyed, stones were thrown at the police. Nine people had died in three days and the government had arrested more than 300 people. The main reason for the demonstration was that the government said there was no justification for another commission and that the opposition parties, including the UML, demanded a commission.

There was tension day after day in Ratnapark, Bhotahiti, Mahabuddha and other areas. On 13 June 2050, when the participants of the demonstration tried to take control of Bir Hospital, there was a huge clash. The situation was such that the protestors took the body of those killed by the police themselves from Bir Hospital and took the body on a journey.

The activists of UML, United Janamorcha, CPN Masal, CPN (Malema), Nepal Communist League and Nepal Labor Kisan Party broke the lock of Bir Hospital's mortuary and took out the body of Mahesh Manandhar . Police could not shoot because using more force would cause more damage.

UML MP Krishnagopal Shrestha Bir, who was leading the group to remove the body from the hospital's mortuary, fainted at the gate of the hospital. Since the death of Madan-Ashrit in the accident, UML has been demonstrating all over the country including Kathmandu. During this process, a large amount of money was lost. The decision to continue the demonstration was made by the left parties.

After the death of leader Bhandari and his dependents, the news prepared by Kantipur Daily about the loss of wealth and political developments in the country was published on the front page on June 14, 2050 under the title 'Police-demonstrator clash, nine dead: the capital is also restless on the third day'.
