After the political change of 2046, the country's economic liberalization had a positive effect on the export trade. At that time, carpets accounted for a large share of exports of 13 billion 98 crores annually from Nepal.

The export business in Germany was very encouraging. 42.2 percent of the country's total exports were in Germany. In Germany, Nepali goods worth 5.58 billion were exported to Germany, and carpets contributed a lot. Germany used to be the big market for Nepali carpets. Carpets accounted for 80 percent of Germany's exports.

With this, industrialists wanted to increase investment in carpet production . In 1987/088, 62 million worth of carpets were sent from Nepal to Germany, and in 1990/092, about 6 billion were exported. This growth in five years contributed greatly to the import of foreign currency in Nepal and also increased employment opportunities. Annually, 2.5 million square meters of carpets were exported to Germany.

The market for Nepali hand-woven carpets was growing. Carpet factory used to be the place of employment for teenagers from slums with low income. Thousands of carpet workers used to work in Kathmandu Valley alone.

Tea, metal, cloth, wood, handicrafts made of bamboo, ready-made clothes, silver jewelry etc. were mainly exported from Nepal to Germany . The demand for Himalayan vodka from Nepal and oil made from herbs was also increasing in Germany. Carpets accounted for 96 percent of Germany's export trade. After the 90s, cotton and its sweaters also began to be exported significantly . But carpets accounted for 96 percent of Germany's export trade.

Development goods and industrial raw materials used to be imported from Germany to Nepal. Due to the rise in the exchange rate of the German Mark, its impact on the import trade was negative. There was an increase in the business and economic transactions in Europe in Germany. Due to the continuous participation of Nepalese businessmen in the trade fair held in Germany and the direct air connection between the two countries, the businessmen were of the opinion that business is easy. 

The then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, during his visit to countries including Germany, requested for joint investment in Nepal as there is an investment environment. At the investment meeting held in Kathmandu in December 2049, Nepali and German investors signed a joint investment and technology transfer agreement in 21 industrial and economic projects.

In the 50s, there was a joint investment of about 60 million between Nepal and Germany in photo color laboratory, cold storage and tourism industry.
