There is no stove to heat hot water for patients. There is no drinking water. Government hospital doctors sometimes visit the nearby clinic while examining patients in the OPD. There is no surgical tool. If the patient gets an 'infection', there is no medicine to be given.

Only 5 doctors are working in the hospital with a staff of 10. 3 million government subsidies coming annually can be spent on salary and allowances .

The above-mentioned details are some examples of the problems faced by Mechi Hospital in Bhadrapur, Jhapa three decades ago. It shows how pathetic and chaotic the condition of Nepal's government hospitals was in the 40s, as well as shows how government treatment services were in accessible places.

Numerically, because there are no private hospitals like now, how the patients who can spend money would have been treated, it is difficult to estimate now . If this was the condition of the hospital in the main city of Jhapa, which is at the forefront of political consciousness and economically, one can imagine the level of service provided by government hospitals across the country.

Since there is no stove or heater in the hospital, the patient had to pay to bring boiled water from outside to drink. How poor the other services provided by the hospital, which does not even get water, is hard to imagine. Is the annual government budget 300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

[Archive] This was the government hospital three decades ago Even minor surgery was not possible. Management was not comfortable . Citizens were shocked by the trend of not going to the place where the government doctor was assigned, opening a private clinic at the gate of the hospital and not treating the patients who came to the government hospital well, going to the clinic while on government duty . Due to political influence and power, the locals have been complaining that no action has been taken even if the doctor's performance is similar.

The board of directors formed for the operation of the hospital was seen only for formalities . To some extent, even the windows and doors where the bodies are kept are dilapidated. The insecurity is so much that foxes and dogs from outside can easily enter the house where the carcasses are stored . Locals are worried about which day the dog will walk with the dead body. Searching for answers to many such questions, the news prepared by Bhadrapur Correspondent Leela Baral was published by Kantipur Daily on 12th May 2050.
