[Archive] This is how the Hetaunda-Pharping road connecting Kathmandu began

After the construction of the Narayanghat-Mungling road, the commercial activities of Hetaunda decreased. The Byroad road was not only narrow but also dilapidated due to the load of traffic.

The need for a reliable short alternative route to connect Terai was felt . There was a discussion to make the Hetaunda-Kathmandu tunnel to fulfill this requirement. The government was "convinced" that the tunnel would be suitable, especially when the need for an alternative road connecting Kathmandu-Tarai was felt. A survey was also started for that .

But since it will take a long time to build the tunnel, a plan was put forward that could be operated as an alternative route in a short time if the Hetaunda-Pharping-Kathmandu road can be built. The said road would provide facilities to 20 rural villages towards Makwanpur. Being a rural road, its importance was also attached to the sale of local products.

In this background, the activity of the Kathmandu and Makwanpur District Development Committee, formed after the political change of 2046, was increased. It's been 32 years since they dreamed of the road and started construction. But even now there is no condition to walk safely on that road. Passengers have been suffering on the unpaved road for years. The road dream seen by the Jiwis presidents of Kathmandu and Makwanpur has not been fully fulfilled.

11 km black paper was made from Hetaunda to Bhaise. The 28 km road from Bhainse via Bhimfedi to Kulekhani Dam was confirmed to be built by China's Henan Company at a cost of 400 million. Similarly, 3 km road from Kulekhani Dam to Sukera had been constructed.

Previously, Makwanpur Jivis had started building a road from Sukera to Fakhelbhanjayang with the participation of local residents. Jivis Kathmandu had started construction to connect 9 km Farping from Fakhel . Since the 12 km road from Pharping to Kathmandu is in operation, it was thought that it would be a great achievement if the 75 km road could be operated through Hetaunda-Pharping to Shaheed Gate in Kathmandu by fulfilling the dream of road construction in the middle.

It was seen that 21 km of road should be built by both the communities to connect Kathmandu . It seems that both of them are committed to that. Locals demanded that the government pay more attention to the construction of the said road. Locals said that the need for an alternative road to connect the Terai would be met, time would be saved and the consumption of petroleum products would be reduced, and the country would benefit financially.

Bir Bahadur Lama, the then Jiwis Chairman of Makwanpur, said that the roads will be widened at necessary places and initiatives will be taken to build new ones. Proposals were also taken in writing to the government agency for that . Even though it is unpaved, the dream of connecting the short and alternative road seen by the two Jiwis leadership has been fulfilled . But the Hetaunda-Kathmandu tunnel was not built. Because, now the expressway connecting Nijgarh is said to be a modified form of alternative route of Hetaunda-Kathmandu connecting road .

Hetaunda tunnel has been replaced by an expressway. The road connecting Hetaunda via Kathmandu-Pharping is now considered by many as an alternative and short road. The news written by journalist Pratap Bista from Hetounda was published by Kantipur Dainik on 13 Baisakh 2050, focusing on the issue of the beginning, need and importance of the said road.
