At that time, i.e. in the 50s, sugarcane produced by farmers was not sold, so it was exported to India. Not because of the large amount of sugarcane, but because of continuous loadshedding for sugar production in Nepal and low production capacity of machines, all the sugarcane produced by Nepali farmers was not sold.
As the production capacity decreased, the farmers had to send 15 to 20 truckloads of sugarcane to India every day. The sugar mills used to advise the farmers of Sunsari and Morang to produce sugarcane in large quantities . But since those same mills could not be operated, Nepali farmers were forced to rely on the Indian market.
Sugarcane farmers said that the problem of not being able to run the machine for 24 hours due to load shedding and the production capacity is also reduced was the first time in 049 after 2036 years. The current problem was also because it was not certain when they would get the money for the sugarcane sold in India. Indian sugar mills used to buy sugarcane at Rs 66 per quintal then . Some time ago, they used to take it for 63 rupees.
The amount of sugarcane in the farmer's field was large. But not all sugarcane was sold. Sugarcane taken by Morang Mill was sent to India. Even though Morang Mill took sugarcane, there was a big problem because it could not produce enough sugar.
The sugar mill buys the sugarcane first, so the farmers have to haggle for the sale of sugarcane. The local sugar mill asked to increase the production of sugarcane in view of the demand of the previous years . But there was a big problem in the sale of sugarcane due to lack of electricity and machines with low production capacity.
Laxman Ghimire, the Minister of State for Water Resources at that time, said that there was no alternative to increasing load shedding. Especially at that time, the government was in a state of mind to reduce the production of the country's largest calligraphy writing. Farmers affected by load shedding were classified and the sugarcane results of the farmers were determined accordingly and sent to India .
Kantipur Daily published a news on the inside page on 7th Chait 2049 about the problems faced by sugarcane farmers due to the lack of electricity production in the country and sugar mills not producing enough.
