A proposal for party unity with the Maoist Center has been presented in the ongoing central committee meeting of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party. Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal is in favor of finalizing the unity by mid-October, the deadline given by the Election Commission of Nepal for party registration.

The Maoists and the Socialists have reached a decision on political and theoretical issues, and an agreement is close to being reached on the new name of the party.

But respected leader Jhalanath Khanal within the Unified Socialists is opposed to the unity. He has opposed it, saying that ‘the party is trying to dissolve by uniting with the Maoists.’ Accusing Chairman Nepal of seeking personal ‘protection’ by uniting with the Maoists and failing to lead the party properly, Khanal has said that he is trying to divide by uniting with the Maoists. What will Jhalanath’s supporters who are opposed to the party uniting with the Maoists do if the party uniting with the Maoists? And why are they opposing this unity? Ganga BC’s summary of the conversation on this topic:

The main proposal of the Central Committee of the Unified Socialists is to unite with the Maoists and other parties. Is a unity between the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialists about to take place?

Now this one group is trying to end the unity. In reality, the situation in the country is developing now. I have not seen the leadership of our party paying any attention to this developing situation. First of all, after the constitution was proclaimed in the past long period, all the governments formed. Those governments could not pay attention to the welfare of the country and the people.

The kind of thing the people wanted, they wanted the country's reform. They wanted an agricultural revolution. They wanted industrialization. They wanted to create employment on a large scale. They wanted to eradicate corruption. They wanted to improve education and health on a large scale. They wanted to strengthen nationalism, but they could not form a government that could fulfill that desire of the people.

Corruption continued continuously in the country. Governments were formed in the name of this or that. Because of that, the people were widely dissatisfied. Anger against the government was growing. This Gen-G movement is a result of that anger. Look, this is the internal reason. On the 24th, the wrong elements tried to give it the wrong direction and brought the country to this situation. External forces may also have played a role in it in various ways.

But it would be wrong for any party to make a new decision without understanding, searching for, and analyzing this internal reason. Our party, including all parties, should work towards correcting the mistakes and weaknesses they have made. In the meantime, the leadership of our party, including others, has also failed. They should accept that failure. In this situation, the same leadership cannot lead the party.

The same is happening in our party now. The leadership of our party also revolted against the UML four years ago. It could not achieve any of the objectives it had set during that rebellion. Because of that, now in the current situation, this leadership is no longer in a position to work. The party leadership is in the current situation. There is no alternative to reorganizing it.

How did the need to quickly merge with the Maoists come about?

There is no need to merge now. The most appropriate situation is to move forward by working together among all the leftists. It could have been to move forward together on common issues, then gradually maintain uniformity in policy ideas, and then unite. Unity could have been achieved after a process.

But now the leadership is making hasty efforts to unite to hide its failure. The common cadres do not agree with this effort to unite.

If the Central Committee decides to unite, what option do you have?

Comrade Madhav Nepal rebelled from the CPN-UML four years ago and formed a separate party. A separate group was formed. Now, after four years, he may join the Maoists with one group and form another party, while the rest of us who disagree with him may do so. On the other hand, he tried to lead the party on the southern path for four years.

He also acted as a complete pawn of the Congress. He is trying to dissolve himself in the Maoists. He also led the party that way. And now, coming now, he is trying to move towards dissolution. Madhav Nepal is on the path of dissolving the party in the Maoists and dividing the party.

Are you going to join the UML?

No, the path that Madhav Nepal is trying to take the party on is not the path we should take now, and we have said, comrade, let's not do that. Let's transform this party and make it a stronger party. Let's make it a revolutionary party. Then let's try to unite the broad left. Let's go in that direction. We have said to build a left front. We are moving forward in that direction.

Joining the Maoists now means dissolving, merging and dividing this party. Who is the leader in the party who says that we should not unite with the Maoists now?

Madhavji has led us to unite with the Maoists. There is a group of his in favor of that. Why did we have to name all those groups? I, Ghanshyam Bhusal and other friends are in favor of not uniting with the Maoists right now.

What is the logic behind saying that uniting with the Maoists will dissolve the party?

Joining the Maoists now means dissolving, merging and dividing this party. Joining the Maoists neither confirms the justification for leaving the UML, nor does the party continue to exist. It is only related to the leader's safety.

So, Is Madhav Nepal in a hurry to unite after being sued in the Kavre land grabbing case? I don't see anything ideological, political, or theoretical that is important enough for him to unite with the Maoists. He got sued. And he couldn't even run the party. He couldn't even run the party. He couldn't even build the party. He couldn't even expand the party.

And after realizing that it was impossible to build a party, he seems to want to take it somewhere and explain it.

Will Madhav Nepal maintain the Unified Socialist Party even if he joins the Maoists?

We will move forward in our own way as long as we are there.

Do you have a different opinion on this in the Central Committee?

I will present my different document in the Central Committee. Many issues, including different opinions on party unity, come up in it.
