Similarly, when I was 10/12 years old, when I went to graze the cows and goats, my job was to find bee colonies rather than mowing the grass. Every time I went to the forest, I would bring bee colonies and keep them in traditional beehives. Since childhood, I was more interested in beekeeping than studying.

At that time, the atmosphere in the village was like farming. All my relatives and neighbors were engaged in agricultural work. I also had to study in the afternoon and do housework in the morning and evening. From gathering grass and firewood to tending the cows and goats was like my regular job.

Even in my dreams, I used to see myself bringing bees from the forest and raising them in a hive. A few years passed like this. After passing SLC, I became a little more relaxed. Then the idea of raising bees in a formal manner came to me. At first, the bees did not settle in the hive. After seeing repeated failures, my parents told me not to do such work from now on. However, I did not listen to them. I did not stop bringing bees from the forest. With that interest and passion, I have now become a beekeeper.

Since I was a child, I used to listen to programs on the radio on how to keep bees under the agricultural program. I got the opportunity to learn a lot from that. Based on what I heard on the radio, I experimented with beekeeping in both traditional and modern beehives. My parents and relatives used to say that the bees brought from the forest would not live in modern beehives. That discouraged me. Even though the bees did not live in the beehives at first, I did not give up. With the same efforts I made, beekeeping has now flourished not only in my house but also in the entire municipality in more modern beehives than in traditional ones.

I have been saving 7 to 8 lakh rupees annually from beekeeping. Initially, I started beekeeping with 4/6 beehives. With the aim of gradually increasing it, I started beekeeping professionally in 2062 BS. I am now 45 years old. It has been more than 20 years since I started beekeeping professionally. Now there are 180 hives around my house. Every year I sell 6 quintals of honey and 200 beehives. I earn more than 1.2 million from that. After starting beekeeping, I, the son of an ordinary farmer, have now succeeded in becoming a businessman.

In the past, I had to wait until Dashain to wear new clothes and eat meat. If someone in the house got sick, I had to take a loan from the moneylender and take him for treatment. Now there is no such problem. After taking up commercial beekeeping, all my problems have been solved. Now I have not only been able to support my family of five easily, everyone has found employment at home. I have acquired land. I have built a beautiful house where I live and have given higher education to my children.

Following my example, the entire ward is now earning lakhs of rupees by keeping bees in modern hives in their homes. Recently, honey production has been decreasing due to diseases and pests, but I have not stopped keeping bees. I have been expanding it further. With the help of various agencies, I have also added modern equipment for extracting honey and making hives.

Currently, honey is being sold at Rs 1,000 per kilo and beehives at Rs 6,000. I have been selling the honey and beehives I produce from local markets to Surkhet, Dang, and Nepalgunj.
